Clearly a starter in this League.. (not a 6th man) KPJ''s CURRENTLY OUR best player...Look what he's doing playing mega minutes "out of position" (until Sengun is given big minutes on a nightly basis), out of his natural, instinctive scoring flow. Lots of thinking. ..KPjr's really a 2, that can handle the ball and rip. More defensive potential than folks give him credit for...which should manifest more as the team D grows.

A few things to factor in...
    - KPJ's got built in infrastructure/advantages here that he wouldn't be clear anywhere else.
    - unprecedented team friendly contract.
    - The concerns over his frame of mind are understandable, but that is becoming less and less of a concern as time goes by. (the risk will probably always be there to SOME degree, but shoud continue to abate)

Personally, I don't think he's going anywhere, anytime soon (for numerous reasons) . BUT, I know there are many who differ with me there. Regardless, what do y'all think Kevin commands on the open market, in draft picks or players? He continues to play value back in, and has gaiined a lot of trust on and off the court.

He is not our best player, and his trade value is negative. Maybe we get a second rounder, or, if very lucky, a late first rounder.

LOL. It’s like you KPJ haters can’t even get your thoughts straight. “His value is negative…maybe we’d get a late FRP.”

Considering his contract I'm not sure he has any trade value. He is maybe our best player, or maybe second best, but that's on the worst team in the league - we don't have any great players. I think he would have value on a lesser contract, but given his 20mil salary, I think his value is probably negative. I do not think we should get rid of him. I didn't vote because none of the options track my opinion.

His contract makes it difficult to trade him.

Great thread. I keep hearing the insiders say that his value is not good around the league. It is clear to me that you just don’t get much for talented players with bad reputations. Look at what we ended up getting for Christian Wood. Supposedly it took over a year to move him for that kind of return? So I believe the insiders when they say we wouldn’t get much for him in a trade, even with the team-friendly deal.

As long as he excepts a role that’s best for the team, and isn’t a negative force in the locker room, it’s much better for the rockets to continue developing him than not. Of course I’m not talking about the point guard position, but after all, his versatility as a player is one of his biggest attributes. I don’t see him maximizing his potential as a player with the current regime though. He needs some structure and discipline.

2nd round pick. He's also not our best player

His contract literally has an out each season. It’d be one of the easiest contracts to trade.

That seems odd to me. He has one of the most team friendly contracts in the league. If he performs at a high level, he's getting less than league average money. If he does not perform, you're not committed to him long term. You can just waive him damn near every year free of cost. How in the world does the contract hurt his value?

I agree. To me, I'm really starting to hope we luck into Scoot in the next draft. I think if we moved KPJ to SF or SG that would solves a lot of problems. And his catch and shoot abilities would really shine along side of Scoot. Alternately, I hope TyTy emerges as a starting quality point guard.

Let's face it, they aren't the best or brightest... then throw in some cognitive bias and you get what we have here.

Facts!! Definitely out best player, just playing out of position. His trade value isn’t as high as it should be for his talent and production, but that’s for obvious reasons.

What do you think we could get in a trade for him? You’re about as high on him as anyone here

It's the cap mechanics of the contract which make it more complicated. Not unsolvable, but more complicated. He counts for more than the value of his current year.

This screenshot contains the explanation (at the bottom right).

It's very difficult to gauge the value of a player under 25 because teams will see their potential differently.

I mean we see that here. For Cleveland KPJ was completely expendable, they gave him away for free, while the Rockets saw more potential in him than they did.

Probably some kind of first, but the of the court concerns would make his value higher to the Rockets than to any other team.

On the Rockets, he's one of only two net positive players, they'd need to get more back for him than would be offered to even consider a trade.

If we can get a 1st for him I think the rockets would have to strongly consider that.

It would hurt the team....but I guess we know certain people are fans of individual players rather than the team, so I can see how they'd like that. It would pad the stats of certain people at the expense of the team.

29 other teams will try to low ball the Rockets.

Second round picks.....take back a bad contract or two.

But they know that the Rockets have tapped into something.......having logged
in on 101 gms at actually playing point guard....his trajectory being similar to
SGA or D Fox next year or thereafter.

Compare KPj to SGA/D Fox after 101 games at PG (82 being a full season)
