    Exactly.

Tesla just made life miserable for its competitors.

they are disrupters, not just when it comes to technology, but also the business model and pricing.

    The consumers should be rejoicing.

PS, That Model S Plaid at around $115k is looking mighty tempting.

Model 3 and especially Model Y are in high demand and two of the best selling cars number wise. That really isn’t even up for debate.

The demand for ALL car manufacturers is declining and will be lower than what it was because of economic uncertainties and rising interest rate.

Tesla actually played this well from a business point of view. They gradually and consistently kept increasing prices when everything was going up and interest rate was low. At the time they were severely backlogged because of the demand.

Once the Texas Gigafactory stared to produce Model Y mix of last year, the wait list decreased significantly until the caught up.

They are able to manufacturer a lot more cars now and economics of scale is coming into play.

Now they are dropping the price significantly (all that fat $$ built in during pandemic) to what the price was before AND taking advantage of the new Federal tax credit to hit back hard at competition.

Tesla can afford to do this because their profit margin is high . Other manufacturers are going to bleed.

One of the ways Tesla tries to keep the profit margin high is through innovative manufacturing. The unibody design and manufacturing saves $$. Part of Model Y already uses it. Whole of Cybertruck will be based on that.

    Very good point.

Not just internally btw, as most assume, but externally as well.

Oh the joy of sitting in a Tesla in a crowded parking lot, waiting for two groups of people passing by each other in opposite direction, and then hitting that button for that external fart.

    The tension!

    The drama!

    kids love it.

This is a very well done clip explaining some of the innovations of Cybertruck in term of design, manufacturing, and materials.

Kind of sucks the 7500 cuts off if you make over 150k, but if you are only making 150 should you really be buying a 60k car?

A model Y long range even before the tax cut is 53k.

Considering inflation, markups with other manufacturers, low cost of ownership for a Tesla (maintenance and gas savings), and access to their charging network, I would say it’s a great value proposition even without the tax break, especially if you have state programs.

With the tax break, it’s spectacular. Here in Massachusetts you get additional $3500 state rebate. Show me a better value proposition.

53k for a car if you make 150k shouldn’t be an issue. With low cost of ownership, and the money you save on maintenance and gas, it’s actually even cheaper.

I think that would depend on more than how much you make. There are people out there who probably never made anywhere close to that who could afford a 60k car easily.

I have a 2022 Ford Escape PHEV coming to me on Monday! Got it for $3k under MSRP and 0% APR for 36 months. It also qualifies for $6800 tax credit so the final price will be around $37k out the door after factoring in the tax rebate. It's decently well equipped with adaptive cruise and lane centering, faux leather seats, pano roof, and premium sound.

It's a lot for an Escape, but pretty much the cheapest way to dip our toes into the EV world. My wife's commute fits well within the EV range, so we probably won't use the engine very often at all.

If I had known about the Tesla price drop a week ago, then maybe we would've gotten the model Y instead, but this Escape is still way cheaper. With how lacking non-Tesla charging infrastructure is right now near Houston, I would not feel comfortable with a non-Tesla EV. She's not into gadgets and electronics, so having to plan a route based on charging would really really annoy her. I think a PHEV would fit our life well.

Make sure to run it on gas a few times every month. If you don’t ever use gas and keep running it on electric, you will damage it.

Folks that didn’t know this damaged their Honda clarity this way. It had 50 miles of electric range electric before gas kicking in.

Related, the cost of solar per Watt has gone from $115 in 1975 to 27 cents in 2021.

Having solar on your roof that charges your car is the way to go.

I'll demo drive a Model Y on Wednesday. If I like it, wife will test drive it. If she likes it, we might have a deal brehs.
