exactly. The Russ who everyone clowns is a better player than Jalen by miles. Yet their biggest fear is that he becomes like pre washed Russ? Unbelievable
Even a declined russ gets up way higher than Green on layups. Green is quick, but he needs a run way to jump high, he doesn't elevate sometimes at all when he drives
The at rim numbers I got from basketball reference are: Westbrook this year 62%; Rookie 43%; 2nd year 53% Green Rookie 68%; 2nd year 62% The Green stats look higher than the eye test. FWIW, Westbrook's shooting has been pretty consistent over the years up to the present. His FGA has dropped significantly in the past few years.
I think the difference is "at the rim" definition, some sites use 0-3, some 0-5 (i was using shot charts). Either way Green #s are way too low even though he does get calls
The only thing I am worried about when it comes to Green is if he permanently can't shoot. He will eventually learn how to slow down and add finesse to his game, and see the court better with time. But he needs to be a better shooter from the outside, it's debilitating to his game when he can't rely on the mid range or the 3 point shot. At that point he only has one thing to do which is to drive as fast as he can to the basket, defense knows that as well. Just funnel Green into the paint and defend the rim. Don't bother contesting his pull up jumpers.
Green needs a floater, vs that one handed high off the backboard layup he lets go of too early … also our paint is alot more packed because we don’t have spacing so a lot of his layups are contested
We all want KJ to start damn Stone and his holding on to of Gordon Eason been a layup missing black hole … Jalen gets whatever he likes .. his shot selection can be **** a lot of times and he’s ADD on defense
New coach that can discipline his team, a pg that can run a real offense and magically everybody on the team gets better. It's not rocket science.
Green is taking 7.5 threes a game at 32% - This is what is killing his efficiency right now. He either has to be a better shooter or cut that part of his game out.
Not worried about Green's shot. In a better run offense he'll be getting higher quality looks instead of the garbage he gets now. My biggest concern with him is at the rim. He gets stuffed a lot. And over time his answer to that is to take more difficult acrobatic style layups off the glass. Is this a size/frame issue? Other players smaller than him don't seem to have this same problem. I'm still waiting for that signature Jalen poster and he seems less willing to go for it this year than last year.
I mean...he sucks at finishing at the rim, so what else is he going to do? He's gotta just shoot out of the slump. I've adjusted my expectations for him. Not seeing superstar potential. We'll see.
