Payton likely going to wait till next Monday... if the Cowboys get embarrassed, I could see them making a call and he still lives in Dallas.
Multiple first and second rounders. Texans don’t have the talent to get rid of multiple picks. Let alone a first rounder.
Sorry, but I wouldn't give #34 either and I love Sean Payton. Cal should give them some cash to offset any salary costs NO paid this year and next, and provide them a couple of 4th rd picks or look at one of the young guns that won't cost anything.
Correct. That's how we knew Lovie Smith wasn't on their radar - he had not been announced as a candidate, nor was he a "finalist." I don't believe their finalists list was official - but it was never denied whenever that coaching search's timeline was discussed. Every single report had McCown, Gannon and Flores as finalists; Gannon withdrew, Flores sued the NFL and....... they hired Lovie Smith.
That's my gut feeling as well. You can bet the house that ol' Jerral has already had "informal" contact with Payton. Besides if you were him which team would you prefer to coach: The Cowboys (America's team) or the Texans (Harris County's team)? BTW, I'm LMAO at the talking heads on 610 and 790 as it seems that word has come down from on high to say "Sean Payton" every 5 minutes.
This tweet misses the reason that it will take weeks: it's unlikely any of the good candidates accepts the Texans' job until after most or all of the other jobs have been filled. Or, alternatively, the Texans are waiting for all the top candidates to get taken so they can justify getting McCown.
Don't want Payton for a number of reasons: I want a young, hungry up-and-coming kind of guy who is dying for his first HC job and wanting to make a name for himself, not some retread looking for full control of the franchise I don't believe in trading picks for coaches To me, he still carries the stink of the bounty scandal No coach has won a Superbowl with 2 different teams at any point in NFL history I think Ben Johnson would be the best candidate - which is why there is no chance in hell that he ends up here.
I'm very good if we hire Ben Johnson. I think a winning offseason is to bring in a talented offensive coach and then draft defense with our first rounders. Take a WR at the top of the 2nd round. We need to build a fortress of talent around our QB position... which will then allow us to win big with only a league average QB. This has been the 49ers formula.
We didn't have top draft picks to make the team more attractive as far as rebuilding goes. Plus cap room.
So coaches would turn down a dream opportunity that might never present itself again because they had to endure 1 year of uncertainty?
Ala…..they are gonna wait until all the good candidates get snatched up and then take whats left. Sounds terribly familiar. Everyone welcome Pep Hamilton as the new HC!!!!
