Horrible game for Jalen. Numbers may not show it but based on opportunity and opponent (Kings are barely a better defensive team than us) this was horrible. Defense was horrible. Even though I know where his career is going, I just want Lucas or someone to sit him down and tell him that it's time to be more strategic and get back in the lab.

26 points on 25 shots is not bad at all for an off night, but the door was open to have an efficient night and play good defense. Worst game of the season AFAIC, and that's right after his other worst game of the season.

I'm not saying you're wrong, nor do I have evidence to the contrary.

I just want to know how someone who supposedly has some next level work ethic, can be so subpar at so many facets of his game.

perhaps hes too much at the gym imho it can impair learning when youre trying to learn many things at once or when you work/practice too much...sometimes its just better to relax or even give up...body and brains need time to absorb and digest the new learnings

I also have no evidence that he IS a hard worker besides the testimony of the people around him, so I very well might be wrong. I’m hoping I’m not though, for the sake of the Rockets and also my own sanity.

I guess if I had to point to one thing that shows that he’s a gym rat, it’s probably the fact that his body is noticeably better than a year ago. But his shooting is kind of throwing me for a loop right now and it can be frustrating.

Obviously you know me well by now, so you’ll know that I’m always going to err on the side of optimism.

Typically people will talk about players work ethic when they don't have any actual skills to praise. If they had any skills, that would be what they'd be praising.

That is some of the worst basketball I've ever seen.

I don't think Jalen learned to be a basketball player with athleticism, he learned to be athletic and play basketball. That hurts his growth and will ruin him when the athleticism starts to decline.

He's young and could be fine. But if he does not improve his 3 point shooting then he's a 3rd best player on a contending team. Lots of comparisons to Booker at this stage but Booker shot 36% from 3 in his second year, Jalen's at 31.9%. Jalen won't sniff 35% this year and I don't know when he'll hit 36%. As others have said, you can't assume players will improve just because you want them to. I can't assume Jalen will become a 38% 3 point shooter. He has to show it.

And I'm not blaming only Jalen. This team sucks, the coach is bad, and the owner is awful. If we get Wemby or Scoot aren't we still bottom three next year? I think probably so. This idea that we're two years away from the play-in does not seem reasonable to me. I think it takes 3-5 years after this one to field a team that thinks about the play-in. And that's with a new coach and our players developing.

My biggest fear is that Green will become a taller and skinnier Westbrook.

If there is indeed tension no coaching staff would do that.

They would keep the peace but now that KPJ is injured.....

    Bollocks on that...

No he won't, WB could play like a mini driving Center who can rebound the heck out of games.

Russ also passes to the spot up shooters and is a beast in transition.

As a rookie he was physically robust.

Green is already some kind of shooter.

Green and Jabari just have weird shooting forms.

Skinny, shooting and Westbrook don't go together. Oxymoron.

Why are you bringing your KPJ negativity into a thread about Green.

Do you want to talk about how Sengun is Sabonis lite?

Shooting being off and body being bigger can absolutely be related. It is very hard to shoot well while also trying intensely to bulk up while also focusing on learning driving lanes and how to get fouled while also learning how to create. All with no real system or structure to support.

Young players take time, and shooting takes focus. He didn't shoot well last year 2nd half by luck or accident, and he doesn't shoot FT well by luck or accident. He will be fine.

Cut and paste into the Jabari thread.

This year's Russ - the declined Russ - finishes at 57% from the rim. I wish Green was that good.
