It's ridiculous how low the bar is when us Texans fans are overjoyed when the franchise demonstrates baseline bare expectations competence (like interviewing real head coaching candidates that every other team is looking at instead of random WTF choices), but we'll take what we can get
Lol Payton was 5-2 with freaking Jameis Winston playing at a MVP level before getting hurt and having to go with Trevor Simien. They still ended the season winning 4 of the last 5 playing Taysom Hill. Some of y’all are crazy thinking a 1st round pick is not worth a top 3 coach. And to be clear, I’m talking about a protected 1st rounder which would still be better than what the other suitors could potentially offer.
AND, you can't help but notice that this time around Cal & Nick are making a public spectacle of interviewing HC candidates in an attempt to give the illusion that they are committed to doing things the right way. It's all a show for whatever is left of the fanbase and the public at large. That's why you keep hearing the name Payton being mentioned as much as possible. Up here in Dallas folks are laughing their collective asses off at the bumbling, stumbling New Oilers and I must admit it's as if Bud never left. Meh, whatever, they'll be whining in their beers after Monday night.
He had Kamara and Micheal Thomas…that helped Winston a lot - I don’t want retreads, yes he won a superbowl in 2009 but he’s 9-8 in playoffs. Great Regular season coach but hasn’t done nada with not having a top 3 QB
Brian LaLima from 790 just said the dumbest shi*t I have heard in a long time…. He thinks the Texans should trade pick 12 as draft Compensation to be able to sign Sean Payton. LaLima is a complete dumb ass… That Salisbury show is unlistenable.
Sean Payton Payton is NOT a top 3 coach without Drew Brees. Dude has won 1 superbowl just like Mike McCarthy. Texans went thru hell to accumulate those picks they have. Absolutely NO REASON to give away a top 12 pick for a any coach not named Bill Belichick.
Possibly, but Cal owns the team. He is incentivized to put as good of a product out there as possible from a financial standpoint, it's not like the Texans are just a grand conspiracy to make their fans as miserable as possible. I'm not sure who deserves a majority of the blame for the past two coaching hires, but don't think it's out of the realm of the possibilities that Cal put way too much trust in certain individuals over the past few years and is finally fed up with the Texans being the biggest laughing stock in the NFL. Maybe I'm giving them way too much benefit of the doubt, but lets at least see who we hire. The Texans have tons of draft and cap space capital to put to work over the next few years - all it takes is putting the keys in the hands of someone competent to turn around the ship pretty quickly.
I hear you but also seems you’re looking at win/loss record without any context. Payton only coached one season post-Brees and they were a tie breaker away from making the playoffs with Trevor Simien and Taysom Hill playing majority of the season And unless you are consistently going to the SB over a long period of time like Belichick, most coaches are only a few games over .500 in the playoffs, Andy Reid is 19-16, Harbaugh is 11-8, Carroll is 11-10, etc…
Lol. How many super bowls has Belichick won without Brady? Better tell me how many playoff wins he has without Brady. The answer is the same.
Lol. You’re the one that brought up Belichick. Your reasoning for not trading for Payton but trading for Belichick doesn’t make any sense. Edit: Should also note that a trade does not necessarily mean giving up the #12 this year. The Texans could offer a 2024 pick which neither the Broncos or Cards would be able to outright beat.
Payton isn't worth the Texans #12; a team that's severely lacking in talent and skilled players. Move on from him...craziness for sure.
To be fair, they did that last year too. They tweeted everytime they interviewed anyone and it was super-weird. I think they even announced a list of finalists, though not positive if that was ever official or not (unsurprisingly, Lovie was not on that list).
