People are gonna have their laughs about the 200 million number (a ridiculous amount of schadenfreude towards him for some reason) , but when all is done Correa is still likely gonna make/have made 235 million over 7 years, and I fully suspect will still make more money after the current guaranteed years are done.

If I were a betting man, I think his 10 year post Astro total will be right around 300 million, even if he never officially signed the big sexy 10/300 deal.

We are currently sitting at $208M estimated payroll in 13th place. There's about $35M available for long term extensions and pickups for need. We have a good line-up and a good rotation, but our luck with health may or may not last.

We are good with the Dynasty approach and woefully inadequate if you want to throw in all your chips for 1 or 2 years. It's truly in the eye of the beholder.

    He's guaranteed $236.1M Post Astros over 7 years. That's $33.7M AAV.
Astros offered $160M for 5 years. That's $32.0M AAV. And he would be a FA 2 years sooner.

    I call that comparable.

How do we actually know it was the final offer?

I can't see the Astros, just not willing to negotiate at all I don't think it's as cut and dried as you are making it out to be, I think he was probably insulted with the offer and did not realize it was not as insulting as he thought it was.

All of this is true, but he is going to be a forgotten man in Minny and by year 4 people will be questioning if he is worth that contract after not winning big.

He probably could have made close to that if he stayed in Houston and negotiated and even more in endorsements, playing for a dynasty and being worshiped as a home-grown product.

We are also talking about 100 million less than what he wanted.

Last post I'm gonna make on this topic.

Correa no doubt has some regret, that regret is not taking the best offer last season before he aggravated his ankle injury. He had offers north of 250 million last offseason, but he got greedy and got hur and wanted the 350 million. That was his screw up in hindsight.

Our offer was never competitive with his winter 2021 market (we saw what he was gonna make this offseason before the injury was noticed), and we knew it wasn't competitive when we made the offer. People need to stop acting like it was just because an injury happened to bring his market value down. Even with the major injury, he's still gonna make more than we offered him.

Dickie Thon (a name from the past) had to search him up... as of 2022, manager of Astros single-A minor league team, Fayetteville Woodpeckers.

Good luck with health? We didn't have Verlander all of 2020 and 2021, and still got the ALCS. Our projected star reliever Josh James got hurt then went bust. Brantley and McCullers were out for half thr season each. Our top offensive catcher in 2021 lost his meniscus last year. And Yordan had to be IL'd for his hand multiple times. And our #1 prospect got hurt so much that he is a joke now in Astros twitter.

Everyone on this board wishes Correa well, he was a great Astros.
At the same time, everyone is giddy we have a 25-year-old ALCS/WS MVP playing SS for the Houston Astros.

Also, and make no mistake. That Astros offer of 160 for 5 years was great. 32 million per year Guaranteed money, we don't know what options might have existed after the 5 years.
Mets final offer was 6 years 157.5 million guaranteed. 26.25 million per.
Twins was 200 million for 6 years guaranteed money. 33 million per.

Astros gave Correa a great offer. Nothing wrong with Correa exploring other options and the Astros got exactly what they wanted. A young ALCS/WS MVP playing SS for Houston.
    Everyone is happy.

Nope. That's his son Dickie Joe Thon. Look at the Astros 1981-1998. He was developing into the premier SS of the decade (7th place in MVP in 1983) until 4/8/84 when he was struck by a pitch from the Met's Pitcher and he lost vision in one eye afterwards. He still managed a pedestrian career even with his loss of vision in his injured eye.

He did not disclose the extent of his injury at the time because he didn't think they would let him play.

And with all that being true, the Astros still had better than typical health for a baseball team.

It may work out for him yet.

Adding in last years $35 mil he practically signed a 7/$235 mil. Considering last year it may have been 10/$270 or so that's not bad. Also, if salaries keep going up and he stays healthy, he may very well bank a 3-5 year contract when he's 34 or at worst have the Twins vest those 4 years, $70 mil. So now you are looking at 11/$305 when added together.

No- they gave him an absolute **** offer. That was proven time and again by the fact that even after he injured himself more he still got an extra 60 or 70M from the twins, and without that injury he got an offer for 170M extra. To try to claim the Astros made a competitive offer is bullshit.

Does anybody really want to argue 6-$180M is a **** offer? Really? When he's injured I'll be worth just as much as he is.

Yes it’s a shot offer. Stop being a dipshit. He was offered 2x’s as much as that by 2 different ducking organizations, and even when it was found out he was damaged ****ing goods he still ended up with - minimum of 50M more ****ing dollars than the Astros offered. I have no idea if you are this stupid or if you are merely doing it as a bit but if you can’t see that the Astros offer was a **** offer, designed to be turned down, and done with the intention of pulling the wool over the eyes of the rubes then congratulations on being the ****ing rube I guess.

What is odd that Alex Rodriguez is the Owner of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Scott Boras was his Agent and Alex is Carlos Correa friend and recommended Boras.

It worked out, the Timberwolves were about to be a Legitimate Threat, until they fired Gersson Rosas.

Rudy Gobert trade is destroying that Franchise, trading away so many picks was terrible.

It was a great offer, the final Mets and Twins offers prove it.
let’s move on from Correa. Believe what you want to believe.

You want to believe Astros 5 years 160 was terrible… go right ahead.

I wish Correa the best, he’s a legend in Houston.
In the end, the Astros will have the better player these next 7 years.
I know you will be rooting for that to be true as a Astros fan.

Pena had a phenomenal post season, but to pencil him as already better than Correa is a damn stretch. Correa produced about 12 war and 1 almost 2 gold gloves the last two years.
