I commented about all of this last summer, but maybe I can shed some light on the illness that Metchie has been battling and his likely recovery. My elderly father had this same exact form of leukemia, so I’m very knowledgeable about this ailment. So, Metchie had acute promyelocytic leukemia. It’s a very rare form of leukemia, and was once the deadliest form of leukemia. Through the advances of modern medicine, APL is now the most curable type of leukemia. More than 95% of patients go into a full remission and in most cases the cancer does not return. I’m also happy to say that the treatment is very mild compared to many other cancer treatments. The treatment lasts for about eight months, but most patients have very few side effects. My father had almost no side effects. However, every patient is different, so I don’t know how it was for Metchie. The good news is that Metchie should be done with his treatments, or close to being done. I would be very surprised if he is not 100% ready for OTA’s.
Look forward to Metchie next year and it sounds he'll be ready or close to it by OTA. Glad he's doing well
