Stone hasn't shown in his history as GM to have ever gotten "froggy" with trades or free agents. Not the best point to make about being optimistic.
sure he has. can't forget about this prized FA and gave him $36 mil when nobody else would come close to that lol
Green and Jabari are gonna be fine as long as we get a better coach who designs offense to maximize players’ strengths. Put green next to a facilitator. Use Jabari in the mid range more. Hold them accountable. We’ll start to see real growth.
Clearly he's the devil. Have to get rid of him immediately because he's causing all of the bad things to happen in the world. He's causing Jalen Green to be the worst defensive player in the league. He's causing Jalen and Jabari to suck at shooting. He's causing Jalen to have a weak handle. He's causing Jabari to not know how to dribble a basketball. At least, that's what CF seems to think.
THIS! Stone is insulated by Silas. It is perfect cover for him for now. That said, generally a GM gets to fire 1 coach. But after that, the heat turns WAY UP on the GM if the 2nd coach doesn't work out.
Stone didnt find Tate on the garbage pile? He didnt get out from underneath the terrible contract of Westbrook? He didnt get rid of Robert Covington for a 1st round pick and then flipped that pick and the Ariza contract to be able to sign Chris Wood? None of these moves can be considered 'stellar', but what can be in a complete rebuild? What moves have GMs in ORL, DET, OKC, or any other rebuilding team can be used as an example of being better than what Stone has done? Maybe you should do a little bit of research before you pop off with hot takes? You can insert your own subjective analysis about how none of those made a difference and keep enjoying the toxicity of just making fun of everything Rockets related (minus Sengun of course!) but the reality is that he has the team positioned exactly where it needs to be at the present.
The players aren't nearly the problem as much as the Owner>GM>Coach. The problem is you can't get rid of the owner, and I'm not very optimistic about who gets hired after Stone and Silas considering they were chosen for the jobs in the first place.
Here's my free mid-season highly sophisticated scouting report scorecard for the roster. I'm not married to any of this, just a fun thought exercise, and I welcome the flaming from each player-fan group. Player - Grade - Development - Max Potential - Trade Block? Green - C - erratic - anywhere from Terry Rozier to Tracy McGrady - yes, quietly Smith - C - erratic - anywhere from Rudy Gay to Rashard Lewis - yes, quietly Porter - D - erratic (plateaued?) - Stephon Marbury - yes, GTFO Gordon - F - veteran - Eric Gordon - GTFO, should be on a contender Sengun - C+ - erratic - anywhere from Jusuf Nurkic to 60% of Nikola Jokic - yes, quietly Martin - C - plateaued - Tobias Harris - yes Tate - C - plateaued - Marcus Smart - yes Eason - C+ - erratic - Andre Iguodala - yes, but for high value Garuba - C - erratic - Nene Hilario - yes Nix - F - none - G-league all-star - yes, GTFO Mathews - D - none - Davis Bertans - yes, GTFO Fernando - NA - plateaued - Taj Gibson - yes Washington - NA - TBD - TBD - yes, for good value Christopher - D - plateaued(?) - TBD - yes, for good value Marjanovic - NA - cheerleader - Boban Marjanovic - yes, GTFO In short, I have a hard time seeing any development in the primary things I'm looking for: IQ, team defense, shot selection, turnover rate, finishing. What I have seen development in is some passing and some ISO scoring across the roster. However this was an interesting exercise for me to visualize what the team would look like if everyone hit what I view as their max potential. Maybe the 2010 era Denver Nuggets? Two conclusions: 1. Burn it down. Start with Tilman and work out from there. 2. ALL-IN for Victor or Scoot
Totally agree. The corporate season ticket holders that never show up in the lower bowl must have carried over from Les and now Tilman sits back and collects a check even with a garbage product. These last 3 seasons have been an assault on Rockets fans and there is no accountability for it.
I feel like my highest grade so far is Garuba Guy looks old , but is really young. Looks like the game has slowed down and he looks like a more fluid athlete... but still with crazy intensity and the ability to do some freaky things . If any offense comes he's a stud. Without it still worth developing as a prospect . He'd get a B+
30. Houston Rockets 2022-23 record: 10-30 Previous ranking: 28 Houston has lost 13 of its past 14 games. Kevin Porter Jr. has by far the Rockets' worst plus-minus (minus-121) during that stretch, despite outstanding individual production (21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game). -- MacMahon
The idea of building around Sengun has spread beyond the people here who are part of the "inside joke".
Where exactly do you think the team is positioned at and why is it exactly where we need to be? Why should we be positioned exactly as probably the worst team in the NBA after picking in the top 3 consecutive years?
LOL Martin is nothing like Tobias Harris and has actually been a bit of a cancer drying about playing time yet you want to keep him? But want to get rid of the actual better player on a reasonable deal because he is like Marbury? Ya'll are funny.
If you look at a lot of rebuilding fanbases this is usually how it is. Not long ago Celtics fans were wondering if they should breaky up Tatum and Brown, what an insane idea that seems now. No one really knows where these guys will be 5 years from now. Best you can do is roll the ball out on the court and see what's going to happen. Most young players are not consistent until year 4 or 5 and people are just going to have to be patient. The team is going to have to be patient too unless some insane deal comes around you can't say no to. I think we have 4 very good prospects on this team (I'm not as high on Tari, I think he's going to make an excellent role player and that's about it). It's not working right now because most of them are not even 21 and the only vets we have on this team is a victory cigar who I'm not sure speaks english very well and a disgruntled SG who has major tunnel vision. You pair this up with a nice guy coach that tries to give everyone minutes and lets players do whatever the hell they want to and this is the result.
