I agree that this is not a lot of money and that his current wealth is not relevant but we got FC out claiming wealth is bad but makes every excuse in the book for Sanders. And being worth 3 million is not an average American and puts him above middle class which I don't have an issue with.
Dude WTF are talking about? Are you really trying to say that Pelosi was just doing her job? You have really stopped trying to make any sense anymore.
I'm claiming wealth is bad? Or am I claiming that accumulating 9 figures of wealth from a 200k salary profession who's duties are to make laws regulating corporations as immoral and a expression of conflict of interest that erodes trust in the process by the general public?
Are you claiming she's doing more than a job? Like she's some ideological activist hero? Are you saying her and her husband over the past 30 years accumulating. Over a 100 mil in wealth while she makes laws regulating corporations and you expect praise for the lady? Why? Is her lifestyle not enough compensation for her "duties"?
I have a question. If the IRS is gutted to do bare minimum tasks what is not going to be gutted? The cost efficient software that algorithmically determines issues with things like tax returns... Right? Don't need to hire as many people with those type of automated systems. Which type of tax filings are easier to automate? Your typical wage workers with a W2 or your capitalist hedge fund manager who has like 10 different llcs? I'm asking you who would benefit more from a gutted IRS. The ultra wealthy or you?
Yes you are claiming wealth is bad when its concerning Pelosi and you did it with Biden as well so anybody not Bernie you seem to have a problem with thier wealth. Why do you keep acting like she made all this money after she was speaker, or that it's her husband's firm who has actually made this money? Can you name 1 bill she has advocated for and gotten passed or ignored that helped her accumulate this wealth? The general public has not lost any trust in her, and she has even given up power. Anyway, I am done hijacking this thread you are just going to try and drown me in ideological platitudes from here out.
She has been in Congress since 87. Also, are you debating in bad faith now. Everyone else here besides you and another troll understands the difference between Pelosi and Sanders when it comes to this matter. Bernie's wealth is what is expected from someone who had a 30 year career with a 150 grand salary. Pelosi's wealth is not what is expected from someone who had a 30 year career with a 150 grand salary.
Pelosi is single and doesn't have a husband with a company? When Nancy was elected in 1987 they were worth about 4 million dollars. They are now, in 2023, worth about 120 million. You are trying to compare Bernie Sanders whose wife doesn't have a job to Pelosi who was worth 4 million when she joined Congress and has a husband who owns a real estate and investment company.
Color me an extremist but I feel as if congressional family who writes regulations for corporations increasing their wealth by nearly 40 fold erodes basic trust in our law making process.
To be fair, I never brought up Sanders. Someone said that Sanders is "wealthy also" as if it's the same thing as Pelosi. So I felt the need to "correct the record".
You should probably go back and read what started this. FC has a hard on for Pelosi, and it's only because she is a legislator that has accumulated wealth I brought up the fact that Bernie has also accumulated great wealth while being a legislator and for some reason that wealth gets explained away, but there can be no explanation for Pelosi's wealth. For the record, I have no problem with any of them having any wealth, I just wanted to show the hypocrisy.
They are in that sweet spot of controlling a chamber while knowing that Democrats will stop any foolishness in the other steps of the legislative process. So they can do lots of grandstanding with ideological votes that would capsize the country if they actually came to fruition. We can mostly ignore the House for the next 2 years because they'll be passing stuff that never gets taken up by the Senate and have no hope of getting Biden's signature anyway. The one thing I worry about with them is that they'll probably shut down government again and probably repeatedly by playing a brinksmanship game with the debt ceiling to extract budget-cutting concessions that'll just hurt the lower classes.
If you take out Nancy's position, and just look at Paul Pelosi as a businessman in the financial services industry: Starting a firm with 4 million dollars in the 80's, adding in successful growth, and factoring inflation, adding employees, etc.... ending up in 2022 at 120 million in net value makes some sense. With any mom and pop start up, one would hope you add 40X the yearly revenue at least over 30 years when you start out with a skeleton portfolio. The question is Nancy's position in government relative to that business. In a perfectly ethical government, one would hope she is recused from crafting legislation that would impact the industries or customers at which her husband services. Like to me... that's something I wish would have happened, or there would have been some form of disclosure she would have given to prove no conflicting interests. ..... However I just can't get passed how apples and oranges this is in comparison to a highly unsuccessful NY real estate nepo baby with a poor portfolio in Jarred Kushner entering government near bankruptcy, in trouble with a loan on a NYC property he couldn't afford, and 4 years later literally being gifted TWO BILLION DOLLARS from the government that contributed to 9/11. What you are griping about here with Nancy Pelosi just seems so miniscule. Paul Pelosi ran a successful financial services firm over 30 years that grew about where you'd expect it to over that period of time, and Nancy should have been a bit more careful to disclose conflicts of interest..... Meanwhile.... Jared Kusher... son of criminal, and on the verge of bankruptcy.... yeah. Seems like misguided outrage to be honest man.
I hate Kushner more, significantly more. He has less influence in our regulatory body than Pelosi ove the course of the past 30 years. Very few small mom and pop businesses with 4 million in starting capital end up with 9 figures of wealth with a couple of investments away from being a billionaire in 30 years.
Lol. You're the biggest hypocrite on the site. Plus, you don't get to tell me what I speak on. Go sit in the corner where you belong
At least according to the internet, he's worth 114 million. If you start a firm in the 80's with 4 million in capital and grow to 114 million over 30 years, I'm sorry... that's what I would expect as normal successful growth. Usually when you start a firm, you have next to nothing and your goal is to double your book of business year over year for the first 5 years and then the growth curve should significantly slow from that but still you should expect 5 to 10% YOY growth. If you take Nancy out of the equation, Paul Pelosi's firm looks solid... but not corrupt. I get it... she's no saint I'm sure. Her family has done really well, and at least the appearance of connection to legislative governance probably is a pretty decent indirect marketing resource for Paul Pelosi. She definitely should have disclosed more, and been recused as Speaker on legislation that impacts her husband's clients. I GET IT. But I still think there's a bit more outrage here than one objectively would expect. If you take out the right wing, and far left boogeyman talking conjecture and demagoguery, she's not really that bad, but in this new era... yeah... everyone on the left should be happy to see the party clean it's act a bit more with Pelosi and Feinstein in particular, stepping aside for Congressmen and women with a record that reflects a higher set of financial ethics. The shift from Pelosi to Jefferies, and if the Senate seat can move from Feinstein to Katie Porter, that would be a very positive step in the right direction. I think we should be thankful we have been able to vote for a party that is moving in the right direction in contrast to the blatant autocratic corruption on the other side.
