Even if he botches the follow up surrounding Wemby with great role players he would be forever known as the dude who drafted him. Stone is a prestige guy, at least he looks like it atm.
Exactly! I don't agree with it, but this is exactly correct. Stone will risk any hurdles in development to get the pick. One more top pick is more valuable than one of our picks improving 20%, that's how he sees it for better or worse. Given we're 40-something games away from not tanking again for 10+ years, I would just accept it right now and concentrate on other interesting stories on the team.
Multiple chips with Silas being our coach for a very long time. Like Popovich in SA or Spoelstra in MIA....
I don't have inside information (pure speculation and reading between the lines): Patrick Fertitta was responsible for "Micro-Ball" Traded away Capela probably against advice of Morey (maybe even D'Antoni) I questioned Morey because he had Chuck Hayes play center in year one or two of Rockets tenure....Loves him some Embiid now, though. *As much as I criticized multiple 6'3" guards and playing Tucker (6'5") and Covington at Center.....[ I said get me more "Wings" from 6'6" to 6'9"] In essence Patrick Fertitta has set up what the League is trying to set up.....teams full of switch everything, everyone passes, everyone rebounds. Just an upgrade in size on "Micro-Ball" _______________ Stone: I didn't care for the drafting of for the drafting of J Christopher, Sengun, TyTy. Held on to C Wood and Eric Gordon too long. Theis is what Silas wanted to run the Dwight Powell / Willie Cauley-Stein role.....C Wood fought against its presence. *JC: I see why a Patrick Fertitta would want him. Micro Ball continued by converting SG to combo guard. Unfortunately JC has been 90% score while 10% pass this season. Continues to struggle with 3-pt shooting. *Sengun: pre draft I saw him as too slow defensively and a poor 3-pt shooter. At first I thought his 3-pt shot in Turkey was the anomaly ; now I see it was Senguns first 25 games or so when he shot about 40% that was the anomaly. *TyTy: work n progress. I don't project him as starter material....but Cameron Payne or Tyus Jones back up stuff is probable. _____________________ Stones vision well he can't go back in time but he can move Eric Gordon or sit him at home (expiring contract-partial payout). Imo the attacking guards of KPj and Green with their size and speed are formidable and a threat to the NBA. Teams will be trending towards it. First month neither could approach a screen properly to save their life. Now (last 10 games) much better. Better vs traps. Better vs full court pressure. Silas still doesn't have that screen and roll man that he had at Dallas. I'm sure he salivates when the Rockets play the Mavs and wishes he had Dwight Powell.......but I doubt the Mavs let Powell go. My guess is the Rockets have a divided management team. Half wanted to draft Sengun while half were indifferent. Now half strongly want to go thru Sengun while half see that the NBA is leaning more towards combo guards and wings dominating the lineups. It's the few old schoolers that believe Jokic, Embiid, KAT can win a championship in today's NBA. It's has yet to be seen recently.....Embiid and the 76ers were a number 1 seed that was bounced in the 2nd round two years ago. Last year Harden joined the 76ers and we're bounced again in the second round. We will see how far the Nuggets go? I'm pushing for the 1) two attacking guards improving 2) Bari/Tari getting stronger in the off season 3) Bruno/Garuba get better (if nothing else, for depth) 4) draft wing or Center. Experience is needed most....they don't give novice pilots a license on just 10 flying hours. It takes 1000's of flying hours. Will it be all the way to the promised land......or to a Dead End.
he doesn't have one. It's all about getting lucky with him cause you can't judge him for years he said
I cannot wait to see if this truly was some large scale master plan or if this guy just sucks. I think we’ll finally know next year.
Well, it's gambling and with gambling heads will roll when it doesn't happen. It is just unsafe to go to a casino with a GM that wasn't a GM for very long. Maybe get Fertitta to join.
It's always convenient to say it was his plan all along with Wemby at stake. The real question is... What would Morey have done with all these Top3 and Top 2 picks?
There is no vision or strategy to tanking. Any average joe off the street could do the job Stone has. What is the vision if the Rockets don't get lucky and land the #1 pick? Probably just tank again and again and again...This is the Fertitta Era.
This is total horse#%^*…..we will end up with the 3rd pick and that Amen guy. I’d be all for tanking if this was the NFL, but it’s a league designed not to reward tankers and excuse me for not being excited for a 14% chance of the first pick. If I told you that there was a 14% chance of rain would you avoid going out to the pool??? 86% and yes I’m staying in. We have a 52% chance of getting the third pick and all this losing ain’t worth that Amen kid who shoots 20% from threes and that’s all the great Silas offense shoots. More important to develop our young talent the right way and avoid the bad habits that go along with having the worst record in NBA history the past three years. Enjoy watching Amen next year!!!
Not sure why people all of a sudden mad at Stone. He’s taken the best players available at their slot in both drafts he led. He’s not bending over to trade EG. If a team wants a player of his caliber, they will pay the ask price…if not…EG, play out the contract you signed, bruh. Main issue is coaching and clearly Silas is gonna be replaced. The next coach is going to be a disciplinarian for sure because this team is too young for a players coach. Main thing he needs to do is get rid of KPJ and make sure this 2023 pick is a good one. Wemby or Scoot.
So basically be a bottom 3 team and make up for the mistake HE MADE with KPJ. Man, this guy Stone must be some kind of genius.
Or just accurate since regardless of Wemby we are still incentivized to tank one last season due to the OKC trade. Pretty sure Morey would be sticking to the general plan of tanking within the confines of the OKC trade. He would try and develop the picks while also being receptive to trade ideas.
