It's funny how lefties never critique bernie who's a multi millionaire and lives a lavish lifestyle.

Alot of people magically forget how awful Obama was with his fellow democrats. Most people in congress saw his approach as condescending and he thought of himself as too smart to negotiate with lawmakers. He was an ideologue who was hell bent on his neoliberal approach with Larry summers guiding him. I don't think people realize how utterly awful Obama was at governoring in every aspect. His bank regulators, ftc, nlrb, sec, cftb were all neoliberal hacks. Obama had no interest in real change and his supporters always rush to blame congress. In his 8 years as president he never once invited a single member to the residence at white house. Most people in his party never got invited to the white house.

Biden is liked by everyone because he's not an hack like Obama. He listens and changes his opinion. He was anti student debt and anti weed but then changed his position after listening to progressives. Biden was against a billionaire tax but then wareen sold him on it. Obama would never even negotiate directly or listen. He thought he was too smart for the room.

He’s worth around 3 million and has written a best selling book.

That’s not much for someone his age/ fame. Should be more tbh.

I have tons of issues with Bernie but I don't think it his current wealth is particularly relevant. He's had a 6 figure income for decades now in a relatively low cost of living state and real estate prices have skyrocketed since he purchased his homes. The growth of his wealth is no different than other baby boomers that benefited from the sharp rise in housing prices over the past couple of decades.

I think you're misunderstanding my point. A politician wealth has no barring on whether they are good or not. We should judge people based upon policy and not artifical measures like houses or cars. Who cares about Pelosi or bernies wealth if it doesn't effect their policy. Nancy Pelosi pushed aggressive tax hikes (billionaires tax on unrealized assets) and was a team player during negotiations last year.

Defunct ethics done. This is exactly how you drain the swamp in Congress.

A secret 3-page document that even some House Republicans don't know? Transparency for the win!

1/9/23 ☀️ Punchbowl News AM - Punchbowl News

However, there’s also a secret three-page addendum that McCarthy and his allies hashed out during several days of grueling negotiations with the House Freedom Caucus. This pact includes the most controversial concessions McCarthy made in order to become speaker – three seats on the Rules Committee for conservatives, freezing spending at FY2022 levels, a debt-ceiling strategy, coveted committee assignments and more.

Honestly the tax code in America is so freaking Kafkaesque and deliberately opaque that I feel like this would be an improvement.

I agree Obama was aloof at the time and didn't have the touch that Biden has regarding Congress. Obama himself served very little time in Congress and that was one of the knocks on him that he wasn't willing to learn how to actually work with them.

That said I don't think he was nearly as bad as you're painting him. He did meet with Democrat and Republican leaders to try to get his agenda passed.

Yeah no chance on this. Personally though I do support a flat tax and we need to greatly simply our tax code.

I agree it’s a derail and apologize for my part in it. It does show though that country to what some of our Rightward leaning posters here like to categorize D&D is far from a liberal circle jerk. Those on “the Left” (which apparently means anyone who doesn’t support the GOP) are willing to have debates about Democrats.

Abolish the IRS system and replace it with a simple national consumption tax? Sounds great. Wonder what rate the GOP House is thinking of? 35%? That's about what they would need to not blow up the national debt.

~30%+ inflation via consumption taxes by the US government probably won't sit well with 90% of the people.

At least you’re consistent with your party to retain your super weapon(IRS) to go after ordinary American citizens.

Praising a human to do a 6 figure salary job who gets compensated 9 figures of wealth for her "duties".

A naive sense that Pelosi has an ideology.

    Those are yuck.
