What outrage? From fans on CF and Twitter? Stay off the internet, and the sky doesn’t appear to be falling in Houston. There’s no pressure on Tilman/Stone. Go to Toyota center, and you’ll see the most casual fans that are too oblivious to know what’s even going on with the organization. There’s no boos at TC. You don’t see ‘Fire Silas’ signs, or people with paper bags over their face. You won’t even see any news or articles from Houston media questioning the Rockets. 3 years of being the worst team in the league, and not a peep. Let it be the Texans though, and people are quick to judge. It’s bizarre.
First, I agree with you that it is possible that Jalen Green can become a franchise player but I do not think it is likely because he needs to improve in a number of areas (ball handling, defense, shooting and shot selection). With his quickness, he certainly has a chance to figure it all out. Yes, I think it is most likely true that his prime is as a 20-25 point a game score. My reasoning is that he will not get to keep shooting so much if his efficiency doesn't improve greatly. Right now, his volume and usage is up but his efficiency is down. At some point he will have to find the sweet spot for efficiency and shot selection.... and I think it is most likely between 20-25 points a game. I would not be stunned if it is higher, but that is less than 50%. Agree with you on his ability to draw fouls, that was a major concern and he has really improved. Now a lot of those are fouls he is getting in the 3-10 feet from the basket range, but it shows increased strength. I have to play with percentages and not best or worst case scenario.
Evan Mobley, Scottie Barnes and Franz Wagner are all arguably as good or better prospects. Josh Giddey is nearly a year younger than Jalen Green and is a better player than Jalen Green right now. He can play more positions, is longer and bigger, a better passer and has a higher basketball IQ. Giddey also shoots the ball better and is a VASTLY better rebounder. Will Jalen Green be better than Giddey and Mobley and Wagner and Barnes? It is possible because of his athleticism, but right now, Mobley and Wagner and Giddey are quite a bit better and close to the same age.
Mobley is being underrated by the majority of viewers due to "stagnation" in his stats. But the reality is he is playing an important role on a championship contender. If Mobley was on this disaster of a team and getting free reign like Jalen, he'd be a 20/10 player or close to it. Not to mention on the other end of the court, Mobley is LEAGUES ahead.
Stone can keep weaseling his way out of accountability, but the clock is starting to tick Stone went and hired Silas against the wishes of Harden who he wanted to keep, and Silas doesn’t seem to be a Fertitta meddling thing either, so Silas should be 100% on him. KPJ at PG…we’ll see if that’s finally over after this season, because if he’s the starting PG again next year, then wow, and that will be another thing that should be on Stone’s head all we hear is how Silas and KPJ at PG are hurting the development of the rest of the roster, meanwhile Stone is the one who hired Silas, is involved in practice and has say so in which players play, and is involved in the decision to put KPJ at point…
I said: may force. That was meant to mean that it is something that could occur. May occur. If we lose, say, 14 of the next 20, don't think some things may change?
Good stuff and I agree with almost all of it except for the Josh Christopher reference. It’s a shame that he has been essentially given up on while Eric Gordon is still here and getting minutes. Josh can play. He has a good attitude, he works hard, he’s just rightfully behind some others at the moment. He needs minutes. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to give up on him yet, but this team needs to make some roster moves for him to ever get an opportunity. If they do trade him, I think they’ll regret it one day.
It's clear to me that both Stone and Silas need to go and neither should've really been hired in the first place. Tilman went bargain shopping for his coach and GM, not surprising this is the result.
DEAD ON on sooooo many points! I have to say i fully agree with pretty much every assessment u make... JC - idk... i need to see him outside of this dysfunction with real coaching...
Agree with your original post 100% — just wanted to say that unfortunately, there’s not enough outrage, outside of social media, to possibly force Tilman/Stone to make changes. I’d imagine in another market, things would be different.
The words 'franchise player' 'cornerstone'. This is just an extended word for superstar and how people perceive them. Personally there can only be 5, thus calling them Top 5. If people want an extended list, then they have to take players that have less quality into the equation.
KPJ lack of rim pressure makes him a better combo guard than point guard. I’m all for drafting Henderson and moving KPJ to the SF. At only 22 he is just too talented. He is our most consistent guard. Draft Henderson & sign a vet and just let KPJ bounce between SF & SG during rotations Green: I expect all star down the road but hopefully he realizes he can’t spend his summers in Paris. I understand sophomore slump. We’ll see next year Jabari: Definition of 3&D but I don’t see a guy who can carry a team. Will really on guys making plays for him for a while at least. I think he is perfect for the system though Tari: Looks like a jackass offensively Sengun: As a white boy I love to see it but we will see if he remains a starter over the years. His defense looks funky sometimes Disappointed Stone didn’t get a vet point off the bench over Nix. Even if we replace KPJ, getting a vet showing KPJ & Green how to become better combo guards would’ve been better than nothing Dream line up next season Harden(or Conley)/Henderson Green/Vet KPJ/Tate Jabari/KMJ or Tari Sengun/Vet Time to trim the rookie fat off the team and load open spots with quality veterans and get winning
Jalen would have hof potential if he went to the good college programme. He still might but he really lacks a lot of fundamentals that make the game easier and he was provided no vet players of his archetype or similiar that would teach him that
He would look much worse on a shitty team, He would still be a stud on defense no doubt, but I have no idea how he would get his points with KPJ and Nix running the offense. Honestly not a single player on this current Rockets team looks good on offense with the exception of Sengun who gets most of his points off of solid post moves. I can just imagine posting up Mobley every possession telling him to score, he might get 20 points on one of the worst efficiency for a big men and kill all his confidence. He is currently 17th percentile on post up PPP and 13th percentile on iso PPP.
I honestly Mobley is a 20/10 guy, he was that in college or rookie year. Mobley is just a seconday scorer, elite shot blocker and can cover 2-5 position. He reminds me of Jabari Smith without elite shooting.
so how is he a 20/10 guy, where is that 20 points going to come from if he's not a scorer. Just put backs and catching lobs? What if it's KPJ and Eric Gordon throwing him lobs instead of Garland and Mitchell
