I never claimed she is not far the worst. But that doesn't mean she deserves praise. Her lifestyle is her praise.
She's certainly going to have a place in history that'll probably be looked upon fondly which I guess is enough for me. I don't think she should be glorified as a warrior for progressive policies, but I think in context there is a nuanced career in politics and legislation. With anyone else holding the gavel, we might not even have the ACA passed, and we might still not have what we now think of as basic health care protections. Again it's a nuanced career. LBJ and the Great Society and Civil Rights alongside the Vietnam war, etc.... she's a figure in history for sure when alot of nuance, good, and bad... but FAARRR from the Nixon, Trump, W Bush side of history. Very few of the characters in our nations history are without flaws... I think she'll be remembered mostly for the good though... but you won't see me telling my grand kids that she was the Abe Lincoln 2.0 though.

So she does not deserve praise for getting ACA through, or what she did in Biden's 1st 2 years, only holding a 4 seat majority? And Pelosi wanted more from the ACA than what was passed eventually.

I think everyone forgets the history of the ACA. When Democrats lost the 60th seat in the Senate, the White House actually proposed a much more narrow bill. It was Pelosi that blew them off and argued that they'd spent too much time and had to commit to passing a comprehensive law. Harry Reid was actually ready to side with the White House. It was Pelosi that forced everyone to continue pursuing a comprehensive health care law. Furthermore, Pelosi had to deal with a conservative Democratic caucus back then that were ready to sink the bill over abortion language. Again, she negotiated a compromise deal with the White House and the Blue Dogs that got the bill passed. Everyone has forgotten how many Conservative Democrats were in the 2008 caucus. That Democratic Caucus is nothing like the current one so Pelosi had to navigate around a much larger caucus that was willing to stall legislation in order to boost their own reelection. Legislating in that Congress was really difficult and she delivered on almost everything she was asked to. It was the Senate that always had problems (because it too had a huge conservative Democratic caucus and it had to get past the filibuster).
As I remember it, Rahm, among others, was pushing for the narrow path and Obama ultimately decided to go big. I don't really remember Pelosi's role a the time. I do believe they pushed through the most robust package politically possible through a very small window.

Democrats were reeling from losing the Senate race in Massachusetts and Rahm Emmanuel was telling everyone to mail it in on health care. Pelosi was the first to push back and get Obama and Reid on board with getting the ACA over the finish line. And a lot of the special carveouts in the bill that got conservative Democrats on board originated in the House versions of the bill. She did a lot of wheeling and dealing on behalf of the White House and the Senate to round up votes. Say what you will about her, but she always delivered the votes to get things done. That's the mark of a truly successful speaker. As speaker, you're ultimately judged by your ability to deliver votes. She did that every single time. She's truly a once in a generation type of speaker.
