Glad he’s not in Houston. Best non-signing of last years off season.

Of course, the Astros had doctors who could tell the future and knew he would reaggravate an old injury after signing a one year deal.

    Truly impressive.

They could of assessed the original injury and realized it was likely to relapse. We almost never had him steal bases.

Or maybe it was luck. Who knows

But he did slide plenty of times during his entire career here, no?

I don't think the extent of things got realized till the plate moved and now maybe they can truly see how well (or not well) the fracture healed.

    Worked with Aiken??

While we're talking about injuries that happened during minor league time... does anybody fully know Drew Gilbert's injury and whether or not surgery was required?

Carlos is still going to make a shitload of money. That’s the bottom line.

2028 is a long time away, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Correa to finish his career as an Astro. He will only be 33 (assuming his options don’t vest). Even if he is a hobbled DH only capable of occasional play in the field, he might fit back in Houston on a nostalgic 3-4 year deal to finish his career and go into the Hall as an Astro. Also, he will almost certainly not win a World Series in Minnesota.

Nostalgic? These are exactly the type of deals Crane salivates for... Brantley/Abreu... guys who could still be productive at an advanced age but won't need more than a 2 or 3 year commitment.

Bring Springer back too once his body can only handle 1B, lol.

I am assuming Correa would still be able to hit, in which case he’d be pretty comparable to how Brantley has been the last 3-4 years.

I’d take Brantley any day as a hitter over Correa.

"Star shortstop Carlos Correa and the Minnesota Twins are finalizing a six-year, $200 million contract, pending a physical"

I love the wording of this.. PENDING A PHYSICAL. This is far from over LOL.

And I'm surprised the Mets wouldn't have offered him 6/200 with vesting.

Except that ignores the $35MM he also got last year. And the potential $70MM extra he could get. But yeah, it's all the same, plus or minus $100 million.

Yup, could end up 11 years $305 mil if vesting is picked up fully.

    Astros' offer: 5 years, $160MM

Betting on himself, his upside was 13 yrs / $350MM. In a very-bad-case scenario where everything then went wrong for him, he gets 7 yrs $235MM with the potential of 11 years / $305MM. In his worst-case scenario (career ending injury this past year), he had $105MM.

And people wonder why he rejected the Astros' offer?

He rejected the Astros deal because he wanted a 10 year contract. Nothing wrong with that.
Astros at 160 for 5 years was not a bad offer.
Mets offered him a six-year deal that's worth $157.5 million guaranteed.
Incredible smart deal from the Astros. Hats off to them.

    Best of Luck to Correa.

I wonder how this will effect younger players being willing to sign extensions?
