Sometimes people thrive when not under constant oversight. Other times nothing gets done. It's nice to know who is who.
the deal is reportedly for one year with a salary of $6MM. Additionally, the Marlins will hold a $10.5MM club option for the 2024 with a $2.5MM buyout, taking the total guarantee to $8.5MM.
I haven't heard Sabean connected to the Astros and honestly I don't think he would want to work with Crane at this point. Sabean left San Francisco in large part because he was mentally and physically exhausted. Crane would expect a level of dedication that just wouldn't be possible. By signing with the Yankees he gets solid money and stays close enough to the game. Now, I think that it is debatable that Crane should have considered bring him on as a consultant, but Sabean is close to the Yankees. Crane is going to hire someone that he meets in person and believes in. It may well be someone that surprises a lot of people.
He doesn't work on the baseball side much, he is very involved with the business side though. I would be surprised if he ever ventures to the baseball side.
I wished we signed Cueto if that was the amount he was asking for. Eats up innings, playoff pitcher, veteran presence, etc
Extension Priority: 1. Entering arbitration; Tucker, Valdez, Javier, Urquidy 2. Pre-Arb 1 Garcia, Abreu 3. Early Pre-Arb Pena __Because he has 5 years of club control, this is the only player I would extend beyond 6 years. But it's not urgent. 4. Veterans Altuve, Bregman
In order of preference: Tucker (game changer but unlikely) Bregman (this market is huge for him) Valdez ( 200+ IP @Cy Young level is rare) Javier (could be Pedro Martinez) Abreu (another step up and he's unaffordable) Garcia Pena (FA @30 and speed/quickness is vital) Altuve ( I think he's an Astro for life regardless) Urquidy
Bill Simmons excusing the cheating for Alex Cora/Red Sox and re-directing all the hate the Astros way infuriated me so much. I'm so happy his beloved Red Sox are falling apart and their fan base is turning against them.
Bill "F*** Jalen Green" Simmons has lost it. Even guys like Joel Embiid called him out for that comment.
