Yeah....yeah he would have gotten away with the money or wallets that he stole.... there is that whole property versus human life thing.

Where we should fall on the spectrum, I don't know.... but I think that walking up and shooting someone in the head after their gun is removed crosses the line for self defense.... especially when the robber was trying to leave.

And would it be very extremist of me to believe that people who believe property is more important than the sanctity of human life have fascist tendencies?

I think the armed assailant viewed their property as more valuable than human life, even his own.

I tried to tell liberals this is what would happen with bail reform......... 99.5% of criminals on bail can be model citizens (they aren't), but it only takes a few to do something really bad to politically harm democrats. Moderate democrat candidates and politicians cannot be happy.

To be clear, I am not taking a position on what is morally right, only on the political reality.

Fascists? Sometimes........ but I can only speak for myself, and I would rather someone steal my wallet than live with killing someone. We don't need people walking around thinking that they are Dirty Harry or Punisher.

The only thing that’s clear is that you love to throw that word around.

Yes I know. Probably because I sincerely believe it's on the rise in America.

I am curious to find out more about that shooter. Also, he looked a lot older to me than 46.

Not surprising to read about the criminal history of the robber.

I thought he was speaking Spanish in that video??

    Hence why I say tendency.

I do think a very central aspect of fascism is simple solutions to complex problems that are devoid of empathy. What is the fascist solution to illegal immigration? Deport all without any consideration of empathy.

What's the solution to crime? Harsher prison sentences, more force etc without a ounce of empathy being considered.

People who deserve empathy are the ones that have empathy.

I think you mean "sympathy". Do you know the difference between the two terms?

It seems maybe you don’t. Let me clear it up for you.

If the armed robber had empathy for those around him, he would not commit the crime. Since he has none, maybe he should be treated with none.

Yes, the patron took extreme measures that most wouldn’t take. Maybe he had been a victim before. Maybe he was sick of non empathetic assholes like the robber taking advantage of people.

So you don't understand the difference between empathy and sympathy?

I just explained it to you. I have sympathy for the guys family though.

Debating with you is always the same. You veer off the actual subject and try to go down some weird rabbit hole. You try to get condescending with people and you never actually engage in real debate.

What we are discussing is very relevant to the subject.

You actually didn't explain the difference between empathy and sympathy once.

Actually. I did. If that wasn’t enough for you, please go check out websters. Go look it up because knowing the difference could help you here.

I can empathize with Karl Malone and John Stockton never sniffing the NBA ring, but I will never ever ever have any sympathy for them.

In fact, I revel in empathizing with them because it means they never won it.

    Schadenfreude at its peak.

I also cannot deny the strong urges to shoot them in the knee back when they were “playing ball” and raping young girls.

Glad you are getting it now.

here is another helpful memorization tool….

“Since you struggle with the word empathy, you have my deepest sympathy”
