Ryans camp is already leaking "no". The others haven't gotten around to it yet, but I do bet that at least one other "prime" candidate also will refuse to interview here.

Just like every other coaching "search". And if you don't have a savvy enough GM who can figure out how to entice them to consider the job, then you probably need new leadership there.

We don't know if this is true. It's literally only Aaron Wilson saying it, and he's a questionable source imo.

    Calhoun:

Good evening everyone. Thanks for coming. We spoke with Lovie last night and informed him we’ll be moving in different direction. These decisions are difficult. Appreciate everything he has done the past 2 years as a coach and leader. Felt this was the best decision for us at this time. Last 2 seasons not what we hoped for but committed to building a successful program long term.

Dealt with unprecedented circumstances last several years
Excited about our future, where we’re headed
Constantly evaluating, looking for ways to improve and reaching out to our fan base, whether that’s uniform changes or making head coach changes.
Always looking to up our game in every area and take our organization to the next level. Now we’re committed to getting this one right.
Full confidence in Nick. Led our football operation through a difficult stretch. Continues to prove to be an elite talent evaluator.
We talk constantly and have a plan for this process we’ll execute together.
With this hire, I’ll be taking on a more active role in this process.
Virtual interviews this week and can begin in person interviews after wild card games
As we conduct formal interviews, we’ll operate transparently, keeping media and fans updated on our progress.
    Strong list of candidates.
We’ll pick the best coach to take this team into our next future with significant draft capital, salary cap space and a young roster.
Excited and optimistic about what’s possible moving forward on the field.

    Nick Caserio:

Important for myself to acknowledge the contributions and leadership Lovie provided in different roles. Appreciation/admiration for Lovie. Had a positive impact on different people. After research and evaluation, we felt, I felt this was best for our program. A long road ahead of us. A lot of work to do. …

As Cal alluded to, we’ve started process of identifying candidates. A lot of work in front of us. Disappointed about where we are currently. I take as much responsibility in where we are and I’m accountable to everyone in this building. Excited about opportunity ahead of us. Didn’t get the results on field we wanted but we have an opportunity here as we turn the page. …

The only way to get better is look at all facets of operation. We’re doing that. Already talked about implementing techniques and tactics that can help us. Relying on more members to make it a more inclusive process. Trying to be proactive. Only way to improve your situation is to acknowledge where there may be deficiencies and where there are some strengths and areas where we can improve our process.

Been a hard day, rough day but thoughtful and productive day. Met with all of our coaches on the staff. Had an opportunity to meet with the team. My message to them was accountability and I took responsibility for where we are. This is a player’s league. Only good as the players in your building. It’s a people business. Only good as the people in your building. Our commitment is to find the best people to move this program in a positive direction. We put ourselves in a decent position. No one wants to hear words, it’s about action. No one will be happy until there’s results behind the action.

What in your process needed to change?

Including maybe more voices, more people, utilizing the resources in the building, utilizing resources throughout the league, using data that might be more available. Candidly, me allowing other people to be part of the process. We trust the people in the building. We have an opportunity to get it right. Only way to improve is to find ways to improve. You have to be committed to making those improvements. We want to see progress in as many areas as possible. We made progress in some areas. Others, we continue to make progress. As far as the process, we’re going through that. We’ve had multiple conversations today. Don’t want to get into detail/depth but utilizing resources that are readily available to us that quite frankly we haven’t done a productive job using previously.

How is it moving things forward to hire/fire Culley, hire/fire Lovie…How does that work with everything you’re trying to accomplish?

Fair question. We have to improve and get better. Each year is its own entity. My job is to each year, at the end of the year, do an evaluation of our entire football operation. That’s what I’ve been tasked to do. Can I do a better job? Absolutely. We’ll try to find ways to improve, make sound decisions. We’re disappointed about the position we’re in. I won’t hold anyone accountable other than myself. I’m committed to trying to get it fixed, committed to getting it right with the people in this building, trusting the people around you, trusting the resources and trusting our team.

After 2 coaches in 2 years, at what point does it start to be a question of what are the other problems and not just a head coaching problem?

More than fair question. I’m not gonna hide or walk away from those responsibilities. Only thing I can do is take inventory of where we are, provide what I believe are the best solutions moving forward, trust the people in the building and around me and try to make the right decisions. If there are candidates who feel that whether or not my position, if I’m worthwhile to be in my position, if the best thing for the organization is for me to not be in that position, I have to accept that and acknowledge that. I’m not above anything else. I try to be consistent on a year to year basis, try to do what’s in the best interest. At some point, if someone feels that that’s not the direction to go, I respect that and acknowledge that.

Why should any black coach feel they can trust you?

Each individual will have to make that choice. It’s not about race. It’s about finding quality coaches. In the end, each coach has their own belief, own philosophy, own comfort level about what we’re doing. … If someone feel it’s not the right decision for this organization, I have to respect that and accept it.

    Status of staff?

Met with staff today. Fluid process. Look at each of their situation individually. New coach will have a say, input. They may have other opportunities to go elsewhere or be part of a new staff. We’ll keep an open line of communication. There are some coaches we may want to keep. There are some coaches who might want to move on. There are some we have to move on because of whoever the new coach is. Try to be honest and open but a fluid situation. Hard to get any clarity for the next 2-3 weeks because of hiring practices. We’ll try to be as open as possible and keep them abreast as best we can.

How do you address the instability questions or questions about credibility if it comes up?

Only way to handle that is be honest, open, respect their position, get their feedback. Whoever we speak with, there will have to be open communication. …

What can you tell candidates (job security) if they only win 5 games for the next 2 years? What kind of job security will they have?

Fair question. Everything factors in. You want to see progress. How is that progress measured? There’s a number of different ways. In the building, out of the building, how do we practice, are we doing enough to help players, are we doing enough to provide resources for the players, are we doing things on the field that give us an opportunity to win on a consistent basis. … In addition to W/L, there are other things you have to evaluate. It’s not about one particular thing, one particular player or one particular result. It’s accumulation of things over time and if we’re showing a pattern of behavior moving in the right direction, that’s what we’ll have to measure it by. …

Who decides the next head coach?

In the end, it’ll be my recommendation to ownership. Cal/Hannah own the team. … In the end, the owner has the trump card.

Why will this process yield better results?

Fair question. I don’t know if it guarantees results. Nothing is guaranteed. It’d be ignorant of me to say changing our process will lead to X number of wins. Nothing is guaranteed. All we’re guaranteed is an opportunity. I have a responsibility but let’s be real, the clock is ticking, time is short. Expectations are high. It’s about performance. If I don’t do my job well enough, and quite frankly, some probably think I haven’t done my job well enough at this point and that’s more than fair, at some point, decisions will have to be made. Only thing I can do is to make a commitment we’ll do everything we can to come up with a better result.

Why should people have confidence in you (getting chance to hire a 3rd HC)?

Appreciative of the support from Cal/Hannah. Again, there’s no guarantees. I’ll do the best job I can. We’ve made progress in some areas but quite frankly not in enough areas. I’m gonna hold myself accountable. No one is more disappointed in myself than myself. Only thing I can do is come up with solutions. If it’s good enough, it will be good enough and if not, I’ll have to deal with the consequences and I understand that.

Anyone that is listening to the presser find it weird that Caserio keeps saying if anyone feels I’m not right here then I have to respect that? He’s said it several times.

At least with Easterby gone Caserio takes all the blame if it doesn't work out this time. He has to get it right.

Totally sounds like he thinks/knows he is on thin ice. He’s said it so much now that I’m sick of hearing it.

When asked about the hiring process last year:

“I make recommendations but Cal and Hannah make the call. They have the trump card.”

    Very telling statement IMO.

Yep! In the big scheme of things it means absolutely nothing. It was simply CYA rhetoric from Caserio. His butt should have been out door right after Lovie's but he didn't have to because Lovie was always going to be the scapegoat. You have to admire his ability to stand up there and lie to our collective faces with such ease. It's a true gift.

But Caserio is only here because Easterby convinced Cal to go against the consultants recommendations on who they should hire as a GM…

This thing is more incestual than a royal family or game of thrones.

True. Let's just hope Cal finally grows a pair and starts thinking for himself.
