Look, not that the Texans have a track-record of doing what is typical, but typically franchises in the same position the Texans currently find themselves in (likely about to use a high draft pick on their next QB at the same time they have a coaching vacancy), hire an offensive-minded coach to groom their high-pick QB investment. Based on that sentiment, I find it hard to believe that a DC like Gannon is at the top of their list, but then again this is The Texans we’re talking about here
Broncos have a talented roster but no QB. Texans had a totally wrecked organization. Broncos aren't a full rebuild. No coach coming to the Texans could realistically expect to be a contender in less than 3 years in a best case scenario. The Deshaun thing was a disaster. But also, OBrien's entire tenure was a long bleed of overall talent level. This was a from scratch, expansion level with the actual expansion draft rebuild project. They don't appear to be doing a good job on the project which only makes it worse.
dam.....right after an extension to! I do like him as a coach, not sure if the QB and he had issues or what but dam. Not sure if is the right fit for the Texans but he has been a good coach
The point of cap space and picks is to get talent. The Broncos don't have the former, but they have the talent already. If a Sean Payton can fix Russell Wilson, they are a playoff team next year.
No candidate with better options certainly would want the Texans job so it will likely have to be some “up-and-comer” coordinator or some desperate re-tread that the rest of the league is passing on.
All it took to fix quarterback Russell Wilson was for Broncos to fire team’s worst coach in last 40 years https://www.denverpost.com/2023/01/...meback-player-of-the-year-mark-kiszla-column/
I think this is a joke post, but I could seriously see this happening. It came really close to happening 2 years ago.
See, I think that's bullshit. Successful NFL rebuilds don't take 3-5 years... especially not when the average career of NFL players is still around that timeframe. The goal-post keeps moving on when this rebuild is scheduled to start. Some said last year as they had their picks. Now some are saying next year. Obviously they need a coach to help execute any potential future. This encapsulates the ongoing dysfunction that a brand new president of football operations should have started to stabilize 2 years ago. They weren't necessarily held hostage by Watson unless they truly felt he was going to come back and play with them, and they made decisions with that presumption in mind (which would also have been very dumb).
The goal posts aren't moving on their own, the team is moving them. The rebuild didn't fully start last year because they didn't fully start a rebuild. That can be a criticism of them, but it has nothing to do with the next head coach. As for usual rebuilds in the NFL, usual rebuilds don't do what the Texans did. Most teams don't get ripped down to their studs with almost zero talent and then rebuilt. They normally have good players but no QB, good defensive players but not enough playmakers, etc. The Texans got ripped to the guts and started over like an expansion franchise. Criticize them for being so inept that they let that happen, but that's not the next coach's fault.
It actually has happened before... (ironically with the Texans in 2006, who were actually worse than an expansion team without the extra draft picks). But even that team showed enough progress in their first 2-3 years to say that they'd selected the right coach, had a QB that was functional, and even though it took them another 3-4 years to grasp, was an experienced DC away from being a playoff team. And it certainly is concerning when the same people who have possibly delayed the start of this rebuild due to inept coach choosing are still in charge of choosing the next coach.
Come on Dre work your magic smooth things over And I know Caserio loves Ryans as well Has always talked about finding the next Mike Tomlin Ryans or Gannon
