Posting random twitter guy because they know how to track what players like on twitter: (nothing sensitive about the tweet I think the Muskbot reads 'Tampa2' as tampon so it considers it sensitive lol
And out of nowhere McClown gets hired. Imagine all this sht seasons we endure just for caserio to hire the white unqualified coach he wanted all along.
hiring Lovie smith was a bad move. Firing him wasn’t. He should have been fired the day after going for the tie. I think the Texans will make a go at hiring demeco which is clearly not a racist move.
Keeping Culley and trying to surround him with guys who could fix the over the head issues (probably clock management, replay review decisions, etc.) would have been the best of all options. The decision to fire him was largely Caserio's... so I don't want to hear that this was all Cal's fault as a result of the lawsuit. And in the end, what the Texans are doing is pretty shitty and complicit as it comes to the crux of that lawsuit. They hired a guy nobody was seeking out so it would be easier to let go when somebody better came along. And then they did the same thing last year to avoid extra scrutiny, when in reality all it did was delay the scrutiny by a year... and just made even more clear that they never had any intentions of either coach being a long term solution. My main concern with Caserio is now he's shown that he can be "blindsided" and its largely due to a lack of experience. He was blindsided that after firing Culley there would be more fuel to a lawsuit and he had to change course from whatever target he had in mind when he made the decision. Then they keep Lovie on board to coach game 17 but they don't think they have to hold back certain players or make further assurances that the team will likely lose... and then Smith has them go all out and remain competitive with the best talent they possibly could have had on the field for any game this year.
If I am an older black assistant coach or an assistant coach.... I want nothing to do with the Texans job unless it is for a paycheck. The only type of coach that will do well here will be someone like Sean Payton, a coach that has the intelligence to know what players to draft and a system that has a proven track record and the ability to get the owner to do exactly what he wants. The problem is that Caserio probably doesn't want a coach with this much power and we have a gullible owner.
Or if he needs somebody with HC experience... Matt Patricia. Or if he needs somebody with HC genetic pedigree... Bill Belichick's son. Caserio is inexperienced and has shown to be over his head when executing these decisions... people fall back on familiarity and comfort when they're overmatched.
While I agree with this, Lovie knew what he was getting himself into. It's like a has been boxer being awarded a fight against a contender. Lovie thought he could turn Caserio's .99 cent free agent pick ups and turn them into something. All you need is an opportunity to make yourself relevant again. Lovie took it. Not saying it was right on the Texans part
Of course Lovie would take it. He was never going to get another HC offer in the NFL (and probably not at any other level). The Texans were only in position to give it to him because they needed to diffuse potential controversy from their decision to fire a minority HC that was hired to be a fall-guy (exactly what the Flores lawsuit complained about). This whole problem was self-created the second they decided to hire Culley. And then it got accentuated the second they decided to fire him. Hiring/firing Lovie really has nothing to do with the dysfunction... that's more a symptom of their decision making/front office. What's even more damning is that the Texans fired BOB 4 games into the season. They had the first chance to hire ANY decent head coach out there... and Caserio made this big show about the "process" and they struck out on everybody. That was the first red flag... and its turning out that it may be the only red flag needed to justify getting somebody with actual GM/organization building experience on board.
Should have never hired him to begin with…career mediocre coach for a rebuilding team? Hopefully they make an intelligent decision for once.
Why is it okay to have a bridge quarterback but not a bridge coach if the owner is willing to pay for it?
Believe I posted this last year but I'm down for McCown if it ultimately gets us wholesale charges at the very top. Not sure if it is enough (probably not) but further exposing Cal is a good thing.
Its not the concept of a bridge anything... its specifically targeting/hiring a minority to fill that intended temporary spot under the guise of being "inclusive" that is at the heart of the Flores' complaint.
If this is the reasoning I’m okay with it. Culley was a dumb hire but Lovie was even worse. Absolutely 0 upside. He couldn’t win with good teams what is he going to do with a rebuild. We need an up and coming coach that is a leader not a fringe NFL mind gasping for life at the end of a mediocre career.
The collective “Texans are racist” posts are as idiotic as the Texans front office for even hiring Lovie/Culley to begin with. They were bad hires … it was incompetence on the Texans part nothing more. Should have never hired either. If anything they made bad decisions trying appease the woke mob, which can never be appeased, and we are seeing that now.
The real question is what happened with the coaching search 2 years ago? Did they really try to find this sort of candidate and were incomptent/struck out in landing one? Or did they intentionally target a patsy that checked the minority box? And I'd like to know what's different now compared to 2 years ago? Same gullible owner. Same inexperienced GM who apparently can also be gullible/influenced by higher ups. Same scrutiny. Same eyeballs looking at race/color/etc.
Either way Im fine with the decision. The defense as a unit got instantly better just by removing that antiquated system. This is a move that for me signals a true desire to start getting better. Lovie was always going to be a placeholder. He isnt fooling anyone anymore and was just a convenient stopgap. Im optimistic that Cal is the one responsible for these moves and not using a committee approach to help him field a team. I can only hope and pray that he will actually hire current football men with a fresh take on the game to usher in a new era.
