He’s playing fine but our head honcho is not a point guard. He doesn’t read the game like one. If we’re gonna stick with him, place him in a position to succeed, and acquire a heady veteran to actually run some semblance of an offense
Unfortunately, he doesn't see himself as a combo guard! Kevin Porter Jr: "As a leader, as a point guard of my team, I got to make sure we prepare and come out the right way and I didn't do that today. That's on me."
I don't know how to say this nicely, but a bunch of "dumb" 20 year olds are not going to run a motion offense when they're struggling to understand basic concepts. The Kings are a team full of vets (including the ex Warriors head assistant and an ex-Warrior starter) and it took them a quarter of a season to figure it out. By any reasonable logic, it would take us a whole season to teach these players to execute a motion offense. Motion offense requires constant, quick and smart decisions and we are so not suited to do that. Look at how badly young players struggle on the Nuggets and Warriors. Look at how badly young players struggled on Adelman's Kings. It's rare that an NBA team achieves it and to be frank with you even among vets it seems 50-50 that a player can work in a motion offense. There is an experience and IQ factor that is very important, and not all basketball players have it in them. A lot of them rely on exceptional talent or strictly limited roles to be successful in the NBA. It's just not realistic for us. I'm all for adding some motion, but these kids have not yet learned how hit the open man on an iso/pnr play. That's offense 101. They have not learned to play NBA defense yet. Teaching these guys a motion offense is like teaching someone astrophysics before math. Having said that, once they improve a bit, we have the key necessary component for a motion offense (a passing big and elite catch and shooters) to make it work so we should definitely do it next season. It's important they learn to run this basic offense this season. I feel you though. I do WISH we were able to run it right now.
It seems Porter lacks craftsmanship to make good decisions through out the whole game. He has physical, mental and education. He has been taught, he understands what is expected, and he is able to get the job done at a high level. Here is the problem he can’t make adjustments to his game when opponents take away parts of his game. He doesn’t have a plan B or more then few ways of doing the same thing. He looks like he doesn’t care but his craftsmanship lacks.
Way to go, head honcho, that dunk is exactly what's wrong with the guy. Even if you're frustrated, you don't do that.
Porter takes his frustration by using his physical attributes when basketball is a at times a mental game.
Good on him for taking it on himself to lead the team and act as a defacto leader. The team is young, Gordon doesn't seem like he wants any responsibility so at least he is taking it on. His play leaves quite a lot to be desired though.
This fanbase got so used to watching greatness every single season and seemingly every single day that it thought it was just the most normal thing in the world. D'antoni and Harden created one of the top 5 offenses of all time and this fanbase thought that we'd just tank and do that again when the reality is that....the lottery is one thing. But the players that we draft is another lottery entirely. The probability of any one of our players surpassing Harden individually is....I mean go look at the Warriors history of players before Steph. Another poster mentioned the Lakers 3 straight high draft picks that have all essentially been busts. That is something that could happen here. As time goes on there's a very real possibility that Harden was an anomaly that we just got used to. Even Orlando with Banchero right now....how long has it been for them being in the lottery year after year after year? At least we're lucky to be in Houston where FAs want to live.
I think this is a huge leap. People arent expecting greatness just improvement and common sense moves. Its the opposite in every way.
College "kids" can be taught to play motion offense. Okay, I get the point. You do need smart players to play it. So dumb kids can't. For that matter, dumb "adults" can't either. It has nothing to do with experience or age. That goes back to my mantra: Intelligence is the most underrated talent in the NBA. Over and over again, scouts prioritize athletic abilities over mental abilities. They say, "You can't teach height (or whatever physical attributes)." Guess what, you can't teach smart either. And if one of the least smart players on your team is your head honcho, you can pretty much scrap any plays or systems that require mental power.
Weird. - We're on a long streak of watching greatness, so we should quit on getting that. - The Lakers - the worst drafters in NBA history - suck at drafting so we could suck at drafting too. - Ignore that the Rockets have 2 titles from a homegrown drafted player after tanking - and even after not selecting Michael Jordan, who was available. This is not a position I agree with. Building through the draft is just as good if not better than building through FA. Once you factor in a cheap owner and a city that has only ever attracted FA's over 30 years old, the answer is simple. Never spend on a near-max tier 2 or tier 3 FA unless your contending team has its best players financially secured. Let's call it the Ryan Anderson rule. Banchero is great but you're talking about a playmaking machine who can't play defense and is not yet good at making 3's. That's more than half the NBA game he sucks at. We can get those every other year in the draft (points + some assists machine), he's not generational... it's more like Blake Griffin. Is Blake Griffin a once in a lifetime opportunity? I bet some people thought so. If that's what you're after, we'll pick up Scoot Henderson and all will be solved.
Oh WAH WAH WAH, anyone b****ing about that is just b****ing because they don't like him.....that is a nothing burger of nothingness. DD
That clip just showcases one of the issues I have with KPJ, that he is always about showboating. It's all flash with very little solid substance with him. Franchise was like that in a lot of ways.
That clip shows nothing other than folks that have a preconceived narrative about the guy. It shows frustration. Now, if you want to talk showboating, we can have an agreement - that is on the coach to yank his ass out when he holds a pose and gets beaten in transition etc...you pull him..... DD
