Lmao, ok Mr. Sensitive. No one and I mean no one is throwing a fit, except maybe you. You just can’t stand it can you? Having Alp being the best player on the team currently really bugs you right?
we are a top 10 defensive rebounding team - better than Indiana. Turner isn’t much better than Alpi or Jabari on the boards.
No we are 10th https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/defensive-rebounding?dir=D&sort=DREB And when it comes to contested defensive rebounds, we are 5th (you can do the sorting yourself)
Thanks, we will look for your cry fest after the game. Will it be in the game thread, or are you planning on the water works to be in the Sengun best player thread?
You ain’t ever seen my crying like you haters lol. I’m a rockets fan first and foremost, keep up the cope though. Alp is here, whether you like it or not
That's per game, that is meaningless, because it doesn't adjust for pace. Use basketball reference, and the rate %
If you look at per 100 possessions, we’re still top 10 and we are closer to the top team in terms of defensive rebounding % than Indiana (who is at the bottom) is to us. our rebounding is not the problem, and even if you want to make it better, Turner is not the guy who will make that happen.
This is how we need to play damnit, energy, fast, ball moving, through Sengun! Only Jalen Green is doing his own thing, tired of his play.
It's not comparing them to see who's better. We compare them to see who is a better fit on a certain team. There aren't many good starting centers in NBA that can pass, but can't shoot a 3. One of them is Bam Adebayo and his defense on the perimeter and as a rim protector compensates for that. I'm not sure how good Sengun's defense will be in a few years, but probably not as good as Bam's. Another one is Draymond and he is one of the best team defenders in the history of the league. Then there are frontcourt players who can pass and shoot a 3, but play bad defense. KAT and Kevin Love come to mind. Minnesota tried to build around both and failed. If you have a center who is not a rim protector, that's a recipe for disaster in the playoffs. How about centers who can play defense and shoot some 3s, but can't pass? They are coveted players that can work on good teams. Brook Lopez, Kristaps Porzingis and Myler Turner are great 4th options on a championship team. It seems like you value Sengun as a 1st or 2nd option on a championship team. Until he starts to shoot threes or plays otherworldy defense, I don't think that's possible. His shortcomings would get exploited in the playoffs. If Gobert can get clowned by Harden and Ayton by Luka, then you know only good defense is not enough. And if you are not Draymond, even good defense and good passing is sometimes not enough. Shooting, however...
I don't value anyone 1st or 2nd option in any team, in any sport. Team first and you need 5 great players and 4 very good back-ups in basketball to get a ring. I can find you too many excuses for any given player. Bam is undersized, Gobert clowned by KJM, Ayton looks like clueless, KAT should be wrestler instead of basketball player,etc... Opinion is cheap, delivering facts&figures is difficult and expensive. I gave you some numbers and checked Turner's 7.5 years NBA journey. And I expect you to answer (if you want) through datas, not opinions, not wishes, not 1st,2nd,3rd,4th options. If Sengun does not have Turner's career high stats in his third year, he is a bust. He will be Turner type "very good player, nothing special." Under a decent coach Sengun's next year stats will be 22/12/6 which Turner even can not dream it.If not, send Sengun to Kings/Pacers/Hornets to suffer and bring Turner for play-in hopes.
I use the term "1st option" because role players exist. Is Sengun a role player or someone you build around? If he's former, you need at least two better players than him on a team. If he's the latter, he can be best or 2nd best player on the team. And once you establish who your 1st and 2nd guy is, you can tell how good a team is. For example, one of Wood or Dinwiddie is 2nd best player on Mavericks. They would be 4th best on a Milwaukee team. Delivering facts and figures is difficult and expensive? For all your fancy talk, you still don't do it correctly. You need context next to numbers, which you don't give. I told you this is Turner's first year without Sabonis next to him, and you totally ignored it. Turner is having a career high in almost every stat this year with almost totally new team and new coach. Mind you, I'm giving you context here. Carlisle is known for putting players firmly in their roles, which Turner never had playing next to Sabonis. Even if Turner might not be a better player than Sengun, he is probably a more useful player to a team that looks up to a deep playoff run. He is a rim protector and a 3pt shooter, of which Sengun is none. Here I'll admit I haven't watched enough of his defense to know how close he is to Turner on that end, so I'll be happy if you englihten me here. Bring Turner for play-in hopes? No need to get cynical. This iteration of Houston Rockets currently suffers the same fate of pre-CP3 Phoenix Suns: too many youngsters on a roster that don't know how to win under a coach with little to no experience. Until CP3 came along, all Suns could do is learn how to lose. Except for that minirun in bubble, where their "big three" of Ayton, Bridges and Booker finally figured out how to play under tutelage of Rubio, who was later "upgraded" to CP3. So until Houston gets a coach who can define roles for each player and a good vet that wants to be there, I think Sengun won't improve as much as he could have. Until he does, I'll take Turner as a 3rd or 4th best player on a championship team over him.
Myles Turner isn't gonna magically make our guards run back and guard their men. Our defense will always be bad until someone is willing to hold KPJ and Jalen accountable for their terrible shot selection and lack of effort.
Correct, its all about incremental improvements, and this is one of them. Not meant to solve the problem, only help.
