Just a heads up that's from one of the clickbait farms for speculative trade "rumors"... nbaanalysis or something. They just make stuff up, split it into 4 different pages with sets of ads and push it on Google News. As long as it's clear what the "random trade idea" is. But I would not do that deal. It's the pick the Rockets used to have (from the Wall-Washington deal, later traded to OKC in part for Sengun) and it's solid because it's protected 1-14 this year, then 1-12, then 1-10 down to 1-8 in 2026. I like the pick. But Fournier goes an extra year. I don't know if that's the route I would go. I feel like EG deserves a first with just an expiring coming back.
Changed title to reflect that, thanks...if you want to move it to random threads that's fine.....sorry for the click bait stuff. DD
Who would we be able to sign with the max slot though? No one will come to this mess. The WAS pick has potential to be a good mid 1st round pick.
No, the pick wouldn't convey and we'd be on the hook for Fournier's salary for another year screwing up the max slot in the offseason.
I'd do this deal in a heartbeat. I think we've seen the big difference in value of a mid 1st rd pick vs the later first round picks. And, I personally think we're wasting our time being concerned about using cap space in free agency. We aren't going to get someone who will be a big difference maker on the same timeline of our young guys. These are the smart deals you do when rebuilding. Use cap space to take on bad contracts and get higher picks in return. When you think about it, it's a fair deal. Gordon is worth a late 1st rd pick. Taking on a bad contract is worth a late 1st. Together, they're worth a mid 1st pick. Funny enough, I was just thinking about a trade similar to this except with the Suns getting Gordon, Crowder going to the Knicks, and us getting expiring contracts. I think Crowder has more value than Gordon so the Knicks would be willing to give up the better 1st. The other thing I like about the deal is that it's for another team's pick. Giving them Gordon doesn't worsen the pick at all. The Wizards don't get any better. Every other trade will probably end in us receiving a low 1st that only gets worse because we gave them a rotation player.
No! Don't want knicks garbage and a top protected pick? Absolutely not! If we're taking a bad contract like Fourniers with a year longer that pick better be unprotected. I love Gordon but business is business.
