You do know biden passed an executive order banning chokeholds and other technique right? Are you aware that bidens justice department has opened more civil rights investigation into police departments than any other administration? They're investigating over 20 police departments right now. You had no idea about any of this just like most people. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/just...-investigation-mount-vernon-police-department Are you aware that this justice department has gotten dozens of prison wardens fired because of their misconduct. Again the way to govern is by being boring like biden but be efficient. My issue with people like Obama and trump were they were loud but failed to govern. When you're loud like Obama and bernie you won't ever accomplish anything. Change is happening whether people know about it or not.
Of course not, and that's a stupid ass thing to say, which is why so vanishingly few people actually supported them. Narratively condensing those very complicated topics (immigration and police reform) down to literally 5 words is a minefield, which conservatives were happy to exploit.
talking to you is pointless as youre too wrapped up in your talking points. do you mind showing me how many progressives or people on the left said she was wrong when she made that comment about defunding the police? As you obviously agree it was an awful thing to say and makes no sense. Please show me who disavowed her statement? All those smart people talking about forcing a vote on medicare for all must have disavowed her right?????? Mind showing me?
Why the hell should anyone have to own up to or account for Cori Bush's words? Kinda funny to hear you go off like this... really drives home my point that conservatives were happy to exploit this. Congrats, you found a 5 second clip of one of the most far-left, first-term members of the House saying something dumb. Here's your cookie.
And to point out again that in Minneapolis where the city council actually proclaimed they would defund the police that went down to massive failure. This is in one of the most liberal places in the country.
It wasn’t just Cori Bush there were many such as AOC and Ilhan Omar who supported defunding the police.
In case it wasn't obvious, I was being facetious re: a dozen Twitter non-voters. That being said: 1) "Defund the police" means different things to different people 2) It gained very little purchase in Congress and in the population at large 3) Republicans were very eager to run with it because it's the most made-for-out-of-context attack ad material perhaps ever
People forgot what the core of today's GOP is. 147 House Republicans voted to overturn the 2020 election results. When Trump said fk the Constitution, I don't think a single House member of the GOP said a thing. They were always going to enable the House to stop investigations into Trump and actually do what they claim is being done to them - turn the House into a fed gov that attacks not just the DEM, not just Biden, but ANYONE that has once dared to cross the GOP in any way. That includes private companies and citizens. On the matter of the fed gov servicing and being functional to all Americas, the GOP has been on a mission to destroy the federal government since Reagan. It gradually went from gov is the problem ('let it be small') to abolishing the dept of XYZ to completely dismantle the gov and start over. McCarthy is part of this trend, not an exception. He is rightfully the leader of this pack. What the handful of extreme MAGA did was political theater that members of the GOP would later use as an excuse to escape accountability.
Actually, they solve problems by actually accomplishing things instead of yelling into the wind about how horrible everything is.
Yes... They solve problems. The great problem solvers. Why do people even cheerlead politicians? They are abject grifters and any work they do is half assed to do nothing besides make sure the public is in check and more riots don't happen. That's their motivation to throw some chump change. The biggest reform in the past decade, the ACA, coincidentally was amazing success for private health insurance. People being forced to buy their private insurance plans or get a tax penalty? Ya of course that's the solution to healthcare lol.. That's the problem. The window of what is acceptable reform boils down to if it allows sustained profitability of the profession of US lawmaker.
So is this just for Repubs or do these rules also apply to the Dems? Also does that apply to every Repub Speaker if a new one is nominated?? T_Man
Yes and that was a huge problem that there wasn’t a clear consensus on what it meant. Yes it gained very little purchase and Republicans were able to run agains it because it was a terrible slogan that was rhetoric to appease anger. In June 2020 when most of the Minneapolis city council proclaimed they were going to do it and activist were booing Mayor Jacob Frey because he said he wasn’t going to Defund the Police it was clear this was going to cause many Democrats trouble. While Ilhan Omar supported it she very nearly lost her primary and many of those who who did were defeated and Jacob Frey won re-election. Nationwide it became an albatross around the Democrat party.
The problem with this view is that it ignores that there is opposition and entrenched ideological opposition towards those positions. Reducing them down to thst politicians are greedy and just want to keep power ignores that much of the country in recent years threw out entrenched politicians for outsider candidates who hold the opposite views of progressives. Law making isn’t easy and not just because politicians are greedy but also because there are actually philosophical and ideological differences in the country. That has always been what politics is about is negotiating through those differences.
was great to see actual parlimentary debate on the House floor, with horse trading, shouting, felt like the UK House of Commons normally the House is just floor speeches and majority leadership just dictates everything with zero amendments allowed case study in how an intransigent minority can extract meaningful concessions with asymmetric leverage. we'll see if they are actually held to
Look dude. You can't tell this with a straight face while politicians amass 9 figures worth of wealth from her time "serving". At the very least let's not praise her as her wealth is enough thanks to last over multiple lifetimes.
zero floor debate and zero amendments allowed to be voted on just massive spending bills negotiated in secret by leadership, and then released with a take-it-or-leave-it up or down vote, with no time to read what's in it
I would be proud of it wasn't just groups of people wanting power like being able to have little experience as a wacky person and still get high level committee chairs because that's where all the lobbyists flock to. You think people like Gaetz wants to improve American lives? Don't be that naive man. You a grown ass man.
Lol stop it. The real decisions are made in committee. Not ****ing floor debates. For goodness sakes man. You a grown as man.
Gaetz doesn't accept PAC money. My favorite Rep other than Massie his podcast is good, gives you an inside look into what goes on behind the scenes in the House
