Most of them are voting for McCarthy now. We're down to 6 holdouts.

I bet the vast majority of the patents where filed by corporate lawyers with little to no money or credit going to the engineers that developed the technology.

Well the patent system was designed to protect investment. That's kind of like saying there is no reason to go to Rockets game if you don't like basketball. However, some clever people have used the copyright system to protect free software. The same could be done with the patent system. I just look it up and of course it's been done. So altruism even extends to the patent system.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patentleft

Patentleft is the practice of licensing patents (especially biological patents) for royalty-free use, on the condition that adopters license related improvements they develop under the same terms. Copyleft-style licensors seek "continuous growth of a universally accessible technology commons" from which they, and others, will benefit.[1][2]

Patentleft is analogous to copyleft, a license that allows distribution of a copyrighted work and derived works, but only under the same or equivalent terms.

The Treasury better be ready to mint the trillion-dollar coin because we're almost guaranteed to default at this rate.

It looks like Mccarthy caved on the "1 vote to vacate" thing.

So now any ****in Qanon goober can call a revote for the speakership at any time for any reason?

I'm sure that won't be abused.

We'll see if that rules package even passes. All it takes is 5 Republicans to vote down the package and we're back to square one.

Appears to be down to 6 as he continues to give away everything possible. Why does it matter I singled out Bobo the Clown? She's an easy target because she's a moron who brings nothing of substance to the House. She's not there to govern. I'm not sure she could spell the word "govern".

Bobo is dumber than a sack of hammers but I believe she is being genuine in this interview.

I do think Mccarthy basically told the freedumb caucus to pound sand and now it has blown up in his face.

The next 2 years are going to be a nightmare for ordinary Americans while these idiots dither and tilt at windmills.

At least the democratic house *pretended* to care about governing.

Hey folks, just remember when the GOP terrorist caucus seizes control of the House that this all could have been avoided with Ranked Choice Voting.

It's such a grand irony that the party whose radicals are least capable and deserving of power are the ones who are going to get it... Meanwhile the far left in America (if you can even call them that) are complete p*****s and cowtowed to Pelosi repeatedly.

We should have Universal Healthcare, but instead we're gonna get 2+ years of chasing bamboo ballots and Hunter Biden's penis.

What in the world do you think Pelosi should have done differently? The filibuster is still a thing in the Senate. The fact that she got all of that passed with a 5 vote majority is a massive accomplishment.

Absolutely on RCV. Elections have consequences and this time, Americans might just actually feel what that means.

I'm going to push back on one thing. DEM house didn't *pretend* to care to govern. They actually did govern, were pragmatic, and got a lot done. Doing the mundane boring thing to inch forward. It's not any leap, like M4A that was never possible with the Senate in the way with their 60-vote threshold. You may think that's why they lost the House, but I actually think it's why they almost won the House. If the House was held hostage by some fire-breathing extreme progressive minority that refuses to get anything through unless they have exactly what they wanted, far less would have been done and the DEM would have lost both the House and the Senate.

I would love to see M4A.

For those of us not as well versed, when was this a possibility to be signed into law? Just curious since I don't always follow every issue. TIA.

Ah, that pronoun, "this." Yes, Matt, yes it is an exercise in vanity.

    I should clarify:

RCV would have avoided this either by being the process for electing the speaker OR if we used it to elect our representatives (it would absolutely wash out most if not all of the crazies from both parties in Congress)
