They put a stake in the ground today. Everybody was emotionally ready to play and prepared to finish the job. It's American, so a grain of salt, but it's a step up in offensive aggression by the kids so they have to lean into that as we hit the easy part of the schedule. Press into what happened tonight and that will give the backcourt some support when needed.
I'd like to know the 12 teams you think are better than UH? I'm not trying to be an a$$ like some. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion but I have seen maybe 6 or 7 teams that are on Houston's level. I haven't watched every team play so maybe you can give me some to check out. Either way I think they are as good as anybody I've seen. Yes the offense can look weak for stretches but actually all teams do against good defenses. They might not be the hands down best team America but they are by nearly every national expert a top 10 team.
Sorry, not a top 10 team, ok?!? LOL Sorry to pile on @solid but that's a really stupid statement. The program has been a perennial Final 4 contender for 3+ seasons, is currently ranked #2 after already holding the #1 spot, #7 RPI, #1 in NET... and you think there are at least 10 teams better than them right now? Can you name em bc I'd be curious to know who you think is undeniably better. Are they the best team in the country? Probably not but truth be told they very well might be. But there definitely aren't 10 better teams. Not even close.
It is what it is man. I appreciate teams like this because I understand its rare you have a team like this with a legit opportunity to maximize their ceiling. And I know very well how hard these guys put in the work throughout the year. and how far this program has gone to be what it is right now. It's funny how so many of these other so called "top" teams are falling back to earth too. remember when NC and all their guys returning was supposed to be a juggernaut. Started out the year at the top. They're not even in the top 25 and they've played pretty horribly for a lineup that didn't change. that's college basketball for ya folks. duplicating success is never a given and you can easily fall of the map year to year
My assessment changed last night. It is like the offense came alive, especially Walker. In the games that I have seen the defense and rebounding has been first rate, but the offense has been inconsistent. The Kent State game was a case in point. Blowing a fifteen point lead against Alabama was concerning. The UCF game was closer than I expected. However, I understand that basketball is different than most sports. The "on any given night" mantra is true. Essentially, I was looking for that "killer instinct," that ability to truly overwhelm your opponent which is a characteristic of an elite team. I saw it last night. On the other hand, I am surprised that people on the board took my comments so seriously. Who cares what I think? This is a "fan" sports board which doesn't make anybody an expert.
If you had of phrased your analysis that UH is not a top ten team as far as offense is concerned I think most of us would agree with you. But this team is built on defense and rebounding and unselfish team play. And we happen to have probably the best coach in college basketball that can put this all together while balancing egos and playing time. Last night's game was incredible. J. Walker airballs a three, SMU scores a quick two and I'm thinking here we go again with the slow start, Next thing you know we score 26 strait points more than half from Walker and we are off to the races. SMU is not that bad of a team. Granted their best player was trying to play hurt. Overall, they have been playing better as of late. But when you come out and get punched in the mouth I can see where it would be demoralizing. If we would have kept the pressure on and if the refs had not made a few questionable calls we would have won last nights game by 50 points. That is with Shead having an off night and Sharp only 1-9 from the field. We are deep and talented. It is scary how good this team has become. Looking forward I am hoping all our players stay healthy and stay focused. I can't wait for this weekend's road game against Cincinnati. They will be trying to give us their best shot.
Well I would say as far as Killer Instinct goes they've had so many 30-point win games I feel like they have it for sure however I actually enjoy the UCF game because it was nice to see them overcome some adversity. This team is ran by one of the best point guards in the nation of college basketball, he really controls the offense when need be, and the fact that all these players are unselfish will lead to generally a good offense. When Sasser zeros in he is deadly, UCF pissed off Marks and he let them have it, he can do that on any night. Roberts is very consistent so getting some buckets from Walker are huge he has the ability to take the game over and by the time we get to the tournament he'll be doing that pretty regularly. Glad to have you feeling like there a top five team on almost every night like the rest of us. Ignore the guys when they get too riled up want to fight over something we're here for discussion over something fun. I have real life issues if I want to be angry about something. Take care brother Go Coogs.
When I saw Walker play last night it reminded me a bit of the guy in your picture. Dream was really raw early on, but showed a boatload of promise. Walker appears to be a bit "smoother" early on. Who knows how good he could become. His "threes" were pretty impressive. His moves around the basket were silky smooth.
Closed it out on the road. Solid. And with J-Walk finally flipping the offensive switch for what is now two straight games, and hopefully the rest of the way, they should run the table in the American and lock up a 1 seed.
Mark Adams: "In less than 24 hours Houston will be the #1 team in the country." Mark Adams > Seth Davis
Jarace Walker becoming an absolute beast right before our eyes! The league is in trouble! This kid is special!
The B12 is an absolute gauntlet. Best conference by a wide margin this year. Every team in the conference is a legit tourney team. And they get to add UH next year, yikes The thoughts of adding Gonzaga too down the road. sheeesh
Went to my first Coogs game vs SMU. Really great time. Big 12 basketball will be really good. I don't advocate for Colorado to join the Big 12, but there have been those rumblings as well. Since joining the Pac, they have quietly had the best 12-13 year run in program history. They are a lock pretty much every season to win 20+ games and produce nba talent fairly regularly now. Don't sleep on them. Better than AZ State.
