Woah there. If I had a 4 year guaranteed contract (or 3+1), and doing things "by design" made me (a) go down as the worst coach in the history of the nba - not subjective, OBJECTIVE, by record, while likely also (b) getting fired anyway.... ... you can be 100% sure I would do things to avoid that and if they wanted to fire me because of that I'd welcome it with open arms, allude to the issue in future "interviews" and go on my way with my $$. In reality, more likely, I'd go to the management and we'd work on a "walk away" deal whereby I exit and we both "save face" and I might not get a head coaching job immediately (or ever) but I'd be MUCH more likely to be picked up as an assistant, and I still got paid my HC money, and in the future it'd be much easier to say "horrible situation". As it is, he's likely to be fired anyway in the future, and the "horrible situation" excuse will be discarded more and more by potential future employers (in searching for another head coach gig) because others can see versions of the team that perform better (eg. the Sengun 30+ mpg team is like 3-3) and a culture that completely became a disaster under his rule.
so according to this logic, why should anyone take something like this from you seriously? You clearly aren't anywhere near the realm of any level of coaching hes been on, so does this logic not apply to you? You probably didn't even play college ball like he did. So your word is supposed to be more valid than his. someone who doesn't sniff even close to his resume
Yeah, this is why I personally don't believe coaches tank. Similar reasons to why players don't tank. Only GMs tank.
Of course he needs to work on his D but not because he has a terrible DRTG in the worst team in the league but because he's not good at it. If you look carefully you'll see that Jakob Poeltl has the 3rd worst DRTG among centers and he's way above average defensive player so having a terrible DRTG stat in a terrible team doesn't really mean much by itself. Currently Alperen is not a good defensive player but i'm pretty sure he's not the worst.
If you want to believe a coach who is trying to make KPJ into the star of the team knows what the hell is is talking about then be my guest. I have been around basketball longer than you have likely been alive. It is not hard to tell when a coach is incompetent. If they weren't letting him be a tank commander trying for Wemby then he would have already been canned. This team is a complete and utter mess under him.
defensive rating (like +-) is a team rating. Do you think it is a coincidence that all those players are playing for the bottom teams? It is not that Sengun is bad or not, it is just the stat is irrelevant for individual defense.
yeah he is the one who is admitting trying to make KPJ the star. rather than kpj acting like hes a star himself. I wonder which one makes more sense. I'm the head huncho and leader or the former. tough choice nobody cares how long you been around basketball. why do folks insist on trying to tell others that when its so irrelevant. that doesn't mean a damn thing. You could be around basketball your whole life and still not relevant to Silas level of play. You're not a pro coach, you've never played professionally. who cares about being around basketball So on your resume you put "I've been around basketball a long time" lol
Hmmm. IF the defensive rating is excused away as a team stat in Alpy's defense does that mean that his awesome offensive rating is a byproduct of the rest of the team too - good offensive players taking opponents best defenders and giving the room necessary for those awesome hook shots? Inquiring minds want to know!
I am actually proud of that post because it was a sincere advice to someone that seems to me as an inferior mind or an inside the box thinker suffering form the tunnel vision of the expert... there was nothing insulting in the post, no curses or anything, I was just respectfully and honestly telling him how his comment & state of mind seemed to me...
to be fair, either way makes Silas look like a horrible coach. This combined with your earlier post is a bit confusing. Do you or do you not care that Silas has been around basketball? If so, then why dismiss that this dude has "been around" it as well. Or do you only care what "been around" means? Do you not think a fan that has watched and studied basketball for decades and decades can have a better feel and grasp of basketball than some that are actually involved in the NBA? What then would you attribute things like Isaiah's horrible GM/coaching or Phil's horrible GM'ing, too? Or someone like Brad Stevens who went from a dude that has basically played high school and some Division III basketball, to a job at Eli Lilly, to being integral on Butlers coaching staff as an assistant, all in his young 20s mind you? Kind of non-relevant post... just I've never been on board the "but you have been in profession xyz, etc. to have an opinion that matters!" train. To be 100% clear, I ABSOLUTELY value experts, and even more-so the more complex the field. But what I value most is the factualness of what is being said.
It wouldn't make a difference who was in that seat. It's setup for failure anyway. the next coach will be in a similar situation just like Silas it's not confusing. telling someone you've around basketball is irrelevant. Using that statement is never an actual validation. Like i said he isn't a coach. he's never played even at the collegiate level. Someone can be around basketball a long time and still have shitty iq just like westbrick. What makes him a person to say you can't take Silas seriously at all nor is he even a high school level coach when you haven't even sniffed anything relevant to give you that kind of validation for someone to take your word for it. It's funny how certain logic's don't apply to the folks that try to use them to discredit what they're saying completely
Anything is possible. Even the coaches can improve and surprise after having a rough start. So why not?
