His freethrows is what's evening out his decline in 3 point percentage, so his TS didn't suffer as much.

Well in a few years he will be 23-24. So he wouldn't be even in his prime yet. It's steady development. So even if he only is hypnotically the 20th best player by 23 he still by 26 can be the 10th best player. Players still grow and develop probably untill like 28 on average.

To me that always is more promising then a stretch of hot shooting. Attacking the rim and generating fta is more sustainable for long term success than a guy being really hot from three for a few weeks.

His ftr for a 20-21 year old guard is really high. And when he gets those 10+ ft games the opposing team commentators aren't even complaining. They are like "he's relentlessly beating the perimeter d and attacking the rim".

So important. Generating free throws without flopping translates very well to playoff basketball. Differentiates playoff scorers from regular season scorers - you have to foul them to stop them in the playoffs. Just another two cycles of adding muscle and working on his handle will make him a monster at the line.

On his 3pt shot, I don't really believe he's a bad 3pt shooter. I think he's just physically not strong enough yet to get fouled on the way to the rim 5-10 times while maintaining his balance and composure on 3pt shots (due to fatigue). It's making him a streaky shooter, but that's a short term problem. Putting on as much muscle as possible really ****s with your shot it's well known, and then try to start going to the line 6+ times a game you'll find your legs dead tired on 3pt shots. He will adjust quickly though, at this age and with his work ethic these things don't take long.

Trying to stop a 25 year old Jalen Green from scoring is going to be an absolute nightmare for any defender in this league.

I think we need to pump the brakes with the "top 15-20" talk, at least until he cracks the top 100 overall in certain metrics.

Also, if a player wants to be considered a top 15-20 player, you can't blame all of their shortcomings on everyone else....they actually have to be good at basketball.

Yep, I admit you're right here. No matter what happens he should be able to stay composed and focus, and have a proper level of activity and attention defensively. He's defending now much worse than at the end of last season or this preseason. A better structure, more/better veterans and a different head coach would help him, but still can't be an excuse here, he must stay dependable and profesional.

The other aspect that worries me is his shot (that elbow out), I'm worried that he can't never reach a solid shooting level with those mechanics, but here I don't know how much is factoring what Mathloom said, how much the mental comfort on the court I spoke about, and how much the bad mechanics / lack of repetitions.

What bugs me the most about this coach is that he clearly has his "favorites". He's hard on Jaygup and Sengun but loves Green and KPj. It's bad for *everyone* when you're like this. Green needs to be coached harder. It's year 2 and he's still growing but he's far too lackadaisical with the ball. Sengun is like this too as is KPj. The guards don't seem to be bothered by it in the least bit though. Sengun I can clearly see get frustrated with himself after an errant pass or missed bunny. Jalen throws up some wild shots I straight up hate. KPj iso dribbles into the nothingness a lot resulting in a lost possession. This shouldn't be happening anymore.

Jabari and Sengun have the best personalities on the team at the moment. Coachable, talented and can be held accountable. This team seems to walk on eggshells when it comes to the guards and that needs to stop. Like yesterday. If KPj can't handle criticism then ship his ass off. If Jalen can't handle criticism then give his shots to Jabari. I'm at the point where even with KPj I can't fault because I'm not even certain what he can do well. The coaches are making him do stuff he can't do well. Winning cures all.

That's not an excuse it's just a fact. If you're mediocre for 3/4 of the season, having a good last 1/4 is going to severely limit your ability to turn your overall numbers around

I don't get why acknowledging that Green's trend line is not locked into "All-Star to All-NBA" status, the way you are 100% convinced he is, makes you into a moron hater who think's he's next Corey Brewer.

He could both be better than Corey Brewer and worse than Bradley Beal - in fact, this is statistically a very likely scenario, probably the middle of the bell curve of possible outcomes.

You got me. I'm triggered by your abject misinformation that I'm sure you are doing on purpose by now. Now enjoy that dopamine hit I provided you. You're welcome.

You keep repeating something like this with zero supporting evidence.

Bradley Beal in his second year averaged 17 ppg on 51% ts with a 16% ft rate and 36% of his field goal makes self created and that's with the second half of allegedly easier play.

Green in his second year is is scoring 21 ppg on 54% ts with a 35% ft rate and 61% of his fgm makes being self created and that's without the alleged second half of easier play.

And Bradley Beal didn't do some Gainnis thing where he came into the league as a stick and grew into tank where there was an unprecedented bump in level of play. Beal naturally progressed to what people thought he would be just in case you throw out some argument without evidence that Beal is some special case similar to Harden or Giannis with some unexpected major bump in level of player.

So ya, why should anyone listen to you?

Nothing shows that Green doesn't have a good personality to be coachable. What mannerisms are you seeing? The cornrows?

He shows a lot of disappointment in himself when he ficks up. What are you watching?

Zero supporting evidence that most players don't end up as All-NBA players?

    Do you actually require any?

I'm actually doing the opposite of your iron law of archetypes and simply looking at the mass of NBA players - against which Green looks not that great right now, definitely not as good as I expected him to be over the summer.

I mean, I don't need to look at Bradley' Beal's rookie stats to know that Green's throwing up of regular stinkbombs, like the 5-17 clanger from 2 nights ago - is just objectively bad.

I also know that he's had an extremely large number of these games, in fact the majority of his games seem to be bad this season.

As he continues to not look good week after week, my doubts as to him being an all star or all NBA player ever grow accordingly - I don't think that's illogical at all.

It's possible of course that he's going to flip the switch next year, but there's frankly nothing about Bradley Beal (or Zach Lavine, or Kobe Bryant) that indicates this is certain or even likely to happen.

Math isn't your strong suit is it?

Green has bad game? That would be indicative of the averages in ts% I've posted. Like you want to include standard deviation or something now?

Bradley Beal in his second year averaged 17 ppg on 51% ts with a 16% ft rate and 36% of his field goal makes self created and that's with the second half of allegedly easier play.

Green in his second year is is scoring 21 ppg on 54% ts with a 35% ft rate and 61% of his fgm makes being self created and that's without the alleged second half of easier play.

And they aren't Beal's rookie year numbers. Those are his sophomore numbers.

Posting it again untill you actually address the massive difference in production and efficiency given that one is self creating the vast majority of their own looks.

And you are being irrational or trolling when you say he has shown nothing to be at the level of those players when he develops when he has far excesses them in production AND efficiency at the same age.

He's 155 out of 191 qualifiers, leaguewide, in True Shooting Percentage this year. What am I supposed to be impressed by with this?

I've watched almost every game he's played man. It's halfway through year 2 and I'm calling out the things I've seen. Jabari doesn't look this way to me and neither does Sengun. Jalen is more talented than they are but he doesn't have the hunger that either of them do. Nor does he have the will that they do. To be fair neither did Harden and he's arguably a Top 30 all time player. But that was also the reason he never won a chip here. Which is what this is all about. Maybe he'll grow out of it but haven't seen traces of it yet.

Oh yes, because Zach Lavine, Beal and Booker played in past eras of NBA ball o_O

You want to compare their ts+% instead? Same story.

You made a specific claim. That Green isn't in a trajectory to be better than Beal. Defend that claim, not a non sequitur.

How many 20 year olds are asked to self create over 60% of their makes at the guard position?

League wide ts% includes people like Clint Capella who get like 90% of their looks from lobs and easy dimes for wide open dunks and lay ins at the restricted area.

It's the cornrows? Be specific. Ive seen Green visually frustrated with himself plenty when he does something like force a bad pass or dribble the ball off his foot.

Like your feelings aren't enough here. Be more explicit. Is it the fingernail paint? His diction? Style of the way he talks?

The trajectory thing is yours and not mine, but it makes for some interesting comparisons!

What? How does this prove your point?

Wut? What are you actually trying to prove here. That some random dude is a lot worse than Green? Cool?
