he has crazy athleticism, seems also he likes to play bb...he can at least be another andrew wiggins...starting to prosper only when hes on a legit contender... jalen green on the warriors coached by Kerr, led by steph klay and dray would be for scary for the league...i am a rockets fan but honestly i would like to see that...all this talent and potential is rotting on a bad team with inept coaches playing in front of half empty Theater Center
hell be back on track as soon as he hits a hot streak of great 3pt shooting...hes that kind of player...kinda like harden too reliant on 3s to fall
Thanks man, that's a really nice thing to say. We all get sucked into the micro details sometimes, gotta help each other out of that.
Man you don't have to be insecure about how it's going to go. Nothing and no one is going to get in the way of Jalen becoming a star player in this league. We've all been through this before where Jalen goes through a challenging period and then people start turning on him. Those same people who turned on him early last year are turning on him now, but the result is going to be the same. He's just going to embarrass them and once again they're going to be like "How could we have possibly known?? This kid really earned MY respect!" lol
We're not supposed to talk about the player he currently is, only the player he might one day become if these magic beans ever sprout.
There's only 22 games after the ASB so it's going to be a huge hole to climb out of. If he's shooting 30-32% from 3 now till then and somehow shoots 40% in those games on the same volume, that ends up at 33% or so, about the same last year and @Mathloom has to start upping his copium dose to dangerous levels. I'd rather he plays well before the ASB. If it turns out that he only looks like a star in March and April when half the league is either openly tanking or DNP Rest ing for the playoffs, it's not great
Aight you got the excuses lined up also if he does play well. Let's hope he does poorly though. Your mental health is top priority.
I'm not willing to say for sure what he'll become because anything is possible... but right now he's not a good player.
He doesn't have the excuse as a rookie anymore, I don't want him to turn it on after all star break, I just want him to become better on a consistent basis.
interesting that Sengun would be rated as one of the best prospects here and fastest risers. He was a -1.0 BPM last year and improved to +1.1 BPM currently. By comparison Mobley, the best prospect from last year, was a +0.6 BPM last year and now +1.7 BPM, on track to become a great player. Barnes who won ROY was +0.9 BPM and now has regressed to -0.6 BPM. Green was -2.9 BPM and has improved very marginally to -2.1 BPM. I would cut him some slack since scoring guards mostly start off negative, but he needs to turn it around very soon if he's to have any hope of following the trajectory of other winning players.
Also shout out to kpj even though he is not a sophomore. His BPM his rookie year in CLE was -3.8, first year in HOU was -3.5, last year improved to -1.6, and so far this year he has broken into positive territory at +0.1. That's pretty tremendous progress the last two years despite playing out of position at pg and sometimes looking bad because of it. In fact he is one of only three Rockets this year in the positive, the others being Sengun +1.1 and Garuba +0.6. Garuba plays a limited role well, doesn't mean he's a better player, and Sengun, well he's the best player on the team obviously.
He's a scoring guard. Playing all the time next to another scoring guard generally it doesn't end well unless we're talking about veterans. Eventually, there will be stretches where he's not getting enough touches or shots as he's used to since he was a kid. A veteran proven scorer has enough confidence, personality and basket IQ to manage the situation, accept it and keep making the right play, but a youngster who's trying to make his name in the league is going to try to showcase his talent even in a forced way, and that will only decrease his efficiency and hurt even more his confidence. The Rockest will have to chose between him and Porter, to me it is as tough as that. This is Porter's team right now, so everything is easier for him since he starts with the ball all the time, so he's the one developing more here. I think the Rockets are wrong, I think Green is potentially the special talent at his position (not Porter), and my bet is that at the moment we put another kind of PG next to Green, his usage, confidence and efficiency all will go up. Biggest mistake of the Rockets at rebuilding is making Porter his primary project. Obviously he's going to improve (he's talented), he's going to have his good stretches, and will make his numbers, but in the meantime you're hurting your true elite projects.
That's a false dilemma. The fact that Green can't hit open shots, is one of the worst defensive players in the league, and has generally struggled all season at basically everything is not things you can blame on others. He's been given every opportunity, he gets all the playing time, he has the highest usage on the team, and he's got the green light to do anything he wants on any given play..... he just hasn't been good. His growing pains aren't the end of the world, but you just can't blame everyone else for them.
Some encouraging signs on Jalen Green: -Win Shares/48 have more than doubled over last year -VORP no longer negative (although it's at zero lol) -Assist % increased from 13 to 17 -Free throw rate increased from 25% to 35% Obviously you have better counting stats with 21/4/4 compared with 17/3/3 last year. Unfortunately, TS% has decreased by about a percentage point. I think some of this is he doesn't get many easy baskets and open looks. Defenses are keying on him more and he still has to learn to pick his spots better. Hopefully that will come with more experience. I still think he is on track to be a top 15-20 player in this league in a few years.
