The thing is, I don't think Tate adds much of what you're talking about here anymore. Tate is easy to isolate and exploit because he can be covered with a center. This also has the effect of making life harder for everyone else, which is why he's a bad fit on the court with Sengun, Green, etc. At 27 yo, it's unlikely his 3 point shot has gotten THAT much better, and in two seasons his percentage has basically stayed the same. He definitely brings more energy to the defensive end, but he's a fouling machine, and with the new rules around take fouls I'm not sure his aggressiveness is always an asset. Tate is a role player, for most teams in the league a good bench guy, but someone whose best traits by now are exceeded by Tari Eason who is both younger and in certain areas far better than Tate. I think shelving anyone to the bench in favor of Tate is a mistake (outside of maybe Garry Bird whose time has also come to be moved on), and his price tag is one that should make him easily movable for a team that suffers an injury to a SF/PF and sees him as a possible piece to help take them to the next level.
Tate is coming back this week. Rockets give promising injury update on Jae’Sean Tate https://www.chron.com/sports/rockets/article/houston-rockets-jaesean-tate-injury-17692172.php
I bet Silas reduces KJ and Taris minutes instead of more obvious choices like Garry… but Silas gonna Silas and Tate will prob be first off the bench again, if not start.
I think they are trying to trade Tate and Gordon together….but for who? https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nb...sedgntp&cvid=4c7e6d5351204fe7ac4c7218a0813818
I would rather that than EG starting but it would mean EG gets the same minutes and it takes away from KJ and Tari. Fingers crossed Tate gets slowly brought back up to speed and EG is traded asap.
How have the Suns not closed a deal with Houston for Gordon? They own all their first and second round picks for the foreseeable future. Give the Rockets one 1st, you get Gordon. Simple. Tate needs to stay.
The Suns franchise is notorious for keeping their draft picks - the last time they didn't have their own pick in the first round was 2010.
Tate is a decent economical contract for what he brings to the table... I'm fine with him as a support piece - good glue guy - but feel no obligation to give him minutes beyond what best serves the team - or opens up possible trade opportunities for him... he's got a ceiling of mid level talent (by nba standards)... so im happy to include him in any trade that brings back a higher level talent...
I love Tate, and would love to see some bulldogged refusal to lose , but I have finally embraced the tank. Tate could easily cause us to fall out of top three for tankathon. At best he will complicate. the maneuvering to keep up with the tankathon leaders in losses.
The Rockets are engaged in advanced tanking. It is actually very complex to maximize individual improvement on any player we see in our future while piling up losses. You need to admire this mastery by Stone and Silas. Also Silas should get a bonus for remaining relatively calm as he becomes the coach with the lowest winning percent in history when he probably knows that he will be the scapegoat and get fired.
