Nothing really scandalous here. Rebuilding is tough. Definitely not worth a thread, but that is the OP for you.
Jalen Green - Offensive Improvement, Flashes of Great Defense/ Locking up Devin Booker Alperen Sengun - Strength - Post Moves, Passing Weakness - Free Throws, 3 Pointer /still learning defense (Blocking Foul/ Offensive Foul) Jabari Smith, Tari Eason are improving slowly KPJ - literally is the same as last year- Makes odd stubborn face whenever he passes to Sengun. Sengun has the ball and cares about passing to the other 3 players in the offense. I am glad Sengun most of the time ignores KPJ in the offense, Jabari, Jalen, KJ, Josh can cut to the basket for a easy layup
Stephen Silas now has a coaching record of 47-144 (24.7%). That's the worst record in NBA history by a head coach with at least 190 games coached.
To be fair Mike Breen, Knicks commentator said "I don't think I've ever seen this many players under 22 playing full rotational minutes". He's followed the NBA for a long time. And I think at the end of the day that's the biggest problem for our team. Too many projects at once and not enough good vet presence
What is wrong with being proud of improvement. It isn't just about wins and losses that show improvement. We are far better than last season and we are in games for longer. He didn't say he was proud or happy with the 10-27 record........another misleading headline. -8.6 down to -6.4 is the for and against difference. 25 games against teams with a winning record and 12 against losing record teams. We have the same record as this point last season, but with a far harder schedule. We were 7-41 against teams over .500 last season We are 5-20 against teams over .500 this season so far i would think that is improvement
Lol but I trust Eric Gordon when he said there was no improvement whatsoever and Silas denied by saying there was.
But the narrative!!!! The narrative is they have no offensive system. It's a lie. The narrative is that they spend a lot of time in isolation. It's a lie. They spend 7% of their total possessions in isolation, that's just over half of the possessions they spend in transition at 13.2% Literally everything else is spent in pick and roll type sets. 93% of the total half court sets. It's all Silas fault he lets KPJ isolate all the time.
Over the off-season the team has improved from last year, but from the beginning of the season to now, the team has not improved. The team is going downward and we need a change. We need a new coach and we should let Coach Lucas coach the team and get a coach on the court like a veteran point guard.
I don't necessarily think Silas is the right guy for this job, but I agree 100% with this point. When soft spoken Eric Gordon and relatively new to your team Boban are the only two vets who have played more than 4 years in the NBA, you know you are going to have a big problem implementing a system -offensive OR defensive. I've mentioned this a few times now but it's one thing when you have one or two guys out of 5 who are clumsy with the details of running a play - not just where you go, but how to set effective screens, how to use effective screens, etc....it's another thing entirely if you have 4 or even FIVE guys out there who are all learning the same....and oh by the way, one of those guys is Tari Eason who I love as a player but who slipped in the draft because they said he couldn't remember the plays and whom without prompt, my kids upon seeing their first NBA game up close a few weeks back specifically pointed him out and said "I don't think he knows where to go" because they saw and heard so many teammates trying to tell him where to be. I won't necessarily say it's a mistake by the front office but I will say it's rather unprecedented that a team has brought so many draft picks to the team in consecutive years and given them all so much playing time. It's no exaggeration to say outside of EGo's minutes, the next most experienced minutes on the court is KPJ who just finished his 173rd game played(not game started) which is the equivalent of finishing his 2nd full NBA season. I know this is the exact opposite of what hot take culture demands, but the context is important and needed if we are ACTUALLY going to get better and not just talk about it endlessly.
