Very scary. Prayers indeed. Just postpone the remainder of the game.

A scary scene unfolded during the first quarter of Monday night's game between the Bills and Bengals. With 5:58 remaining in the opening quarter, Bills safety Damar Hamlin was injured after tackling Bengals wideout Tee Higgins. Hamlin initially stood up after making the tackle but quickly fell back to the ground.

Hamlin was receiving CPR from the medical staff on the field, according to ESPN. He was eventually placed on a stretcher and was given oxygen as he was taken off in an ambulance.

    Prayers for Hamlin.

I’ll save my comments until we have word on his health.

When I saw the video that was my thought. Being a coach and ref in a violent sport I've gotten some sports injury emergency training. This is a very rare possibility but is one of those things to look for in these type of situations. It has led to the deaths of young athletes but hopefully this won't turn out that way.

One real positive is that he was treated right away and he has the best resources.

This is a really good explanation about what might've happened.

I saw the play live and on replays until ESPN realized the severity of the injury. IMO the collision looked “normal” - I don’t know the likelihood of cardiac arrest but it happened. Thank goodness it doesn’t happen more with the hits guys take.

ESPN handled it as classy as they could going to multiple commercial breaks then kicking it back to the studio. There was no speculation but saying Hamlin was administered CPR on the field tells you the severity.

The NFL is now denying it gave both teams a 5 minute warm up period. I guess we will never know but we do know it took almost an hour to postpone the game. I’ll give the NFL the benefit of the doubt that since they had never gone through something like this maybe they were unprepared in the moment.
