In my example, nothing is performance based or even playing time based. It is a straight 7 year contract. It just wouldn't kick in until after three arbitration years under normal rules. I agree with your statement, I'm just looking for the edges. I earlier broached the gray area of playing time incentives verse performance incentives with the idea of a Contract based on PA instead of the Baseball Season. I suspect this would not be approved by the Commissioner unless it was presented by a Most Favored Franchise. I do wish the 2022 Master Agreement was readily available to the fans. You know it is available to the teams. Having it trickle out to fans through reporters guarantees miscommunication ans bad information. There are enough disputes between lawyers with the document in front of them. Reporters getting filtered leaks have no chance.
There are only two options in contract timing. Immediate or at the end of the current contract (i.e., extensions have to extend something without a gap). Also, even if there isn't a specific rule, there is a catch all rule that prevents contracts that circumvent the CBA and affect luxury tax purposes. There is no point in speculating on contracts that don't start immediately or at the end of the current contract as they affect AAV. There are no edges.
I will happily take your memory of that no-hitter. I was there, my oldest Uncle flew in because he's a big Dodgers fan going back to the Brooklyn Dodger days when that's all he can get on the radio and they all hated the Yankees because they bought all the players. My cousin is an Astro fan like me and he was there. So we thoroughly enjoyed watching my uncle suffer through his glorious Dodgers getting no hit. I saw Bob Forsch throw a no hitter as a kid but I didn't really understand how rare it was. I saw Nolan go into the 8th of one at the Dome with my girlfriend, now wife of 30+ years, Mike Schmidt broke it up. So it's nice to have one that I fully saw and understood in person with my uncle. MF is the rat and from lots of rumors a pretty low life human being, this would eventually broke as a scandal by somebody. It's still a great memory for me.
I did find a copy of the old agreement and it specifically states the Uniform Player Contract is for the Championship Season (or proportion thereof) so assuming the new agreement did not change the Uniform Player Contract, then the PA contract is out. There is still no "continuation" requirement if a player chose to go through arbitration and sign a new future contract since all years would be covered by either Arbitration or the Future Contract. But even if permitted, it would be extremely unlikely.
and how can such a run of the mill innings eater without remarkable stuff have two to his name will never cease to amaze me. JV-3 MF-2. They are not even in the same league
Being posted after this season, from the reports I've seen. Also, how many future CFs do you want the Astros to have? Reynolds, then Mullins, then Alek Thomas, then circle back around to the beginning, then Nimmo was in there somewhere, then Mullins again, then McCarthy, then McCarthy AND Thomas, then back to just Thomas, then Reynolds and now Jung Hoo Lee. Not to mention all the other OFers you've wanted the Astros to get: Benintendi, L. Gurriel, Burleson, Haniger, Happ, Brantley (hey, you were right!). If you're dreaming of a new CF for the long term, it's not going to happen. For the ones that make a difference, the cost will be too high for the Astros, otherwise, we have Meyers, McCormick, Leon and Gilbert as possibilities the next couple years, and not to mention the 82 other OFers the Astros have in their top 20.
Was there with my eight year old son that night when Yordan hit that bomb. Was surreal watching that thing sail. Had seats under the big scoreboard. Second deck. At that angle our section didn’t immediately know. Dude to my left who I did not know grabbed my arm and squeezed like he was trying to will it out of the stadium. That hit and entire game was an experience I won’t forget and more importantly my son will never forget. Seeing this video gives me goosebumps and pumps me up for 2023. Let’s repeat. Hell let’s beat the crap out of JV and the Mets. Or Correa and the Dodgers. I don’t care. If it means more trophies being hoisted I will gladly accept the Astros as MLB villains. Hell bring back Lunhow and let him refill the pipeline and keep this train moving.
