I would make the argument that the shots created by Porter are open but the pass is not always a good one. It makes it to them but it’s not in the right spot.
Kobe had the perfect situation to propel him to stardom before he actually deserved it for multiple reasons such as winning the dunk contest as you said, being a Laker and having one of the most famous players in the NBA as a teammate in Shaq.
Jalen Green had a 2 months stretch as a rookie shooting 38% from three on 8 attempts per game. That is too large of a sample size to dismiss Green not being able to be a competent off ball player. In fact that was one of his strengths coming into the league. So apply Occam's razor. What is more likely. Green is a horrible off ball player or Green is on a team that has a 22 year old learning how to play pg with a novice head coach that doesn't know how to install a motion offense? Green is forced to create his own shots more than other off guards because of the situation he is in. Mathurin is a prime example of the opposite. He's in a actual offensive system with a elite pg and generates 27% of his offensive off the dribble while Green is at 62% They are both off guards and yet they still have such a massive difference in unassisted rates.
NBA.com allows you to see every player's FGA from a game. It's actually very easy to see how many of his attempts come from moving off-ball. Your logic is weird. You're weighing a 2 month sample over the totality of his career.
Ya I get it. A 2 months sample size for a veteran like Green is a small drop in the bucket compared to his extensive 6 months of NBA ball experience. Flash in the pan.
On the one hand, I am amazed that almost 12% of this board believed the Rockets would win more than 40 games this season, but on the other, I'm surprised it's not like 60%. Those people who thought we would make the play-in sure are a vocal minority. It's wild to see that over half the board had realistic expectations and yet we see so many posts talking about how disappointing this team is.
The season is almost halfway over. He's played almost 1.5 seasons. You're making yourself look foolish.
Yes the season is almost half way over and Jalen Green has played 1.5 NBA seasons. I don't think you really made the point you wanted here. All you did was exemplify my point.
I did. You just missed it. You're placing greater weight on what he did over a 2 month span (according to you) in his rookie year than what he's done for his 1.5 season career as a whole. That's foolish.
2 months span for a player that played 1.5 seasons(he also missed an entire month his rookie year) is a significant chunk of their career. Green has 103 games under his belt. The average NBA games played in a month is around 13. That's roughly 7-8 months of playing NBA ball. So ya 2 months of 7-8 months of playing is a significant chunk of their NBA career.
So you're placing more weight on what he did in 2 months that what he did in the other 6 months? Are you familiar with the term "cherry-picking"?
They miss open shots because there is no rhythm and flow to the game with KPJ… Jabari or Green hit 2/3 shots and then KPJ is going to shoot the ball the next 3-4 times down the court A lot of shots KPJ creates are because he’s driving and has no other option Vs driving with the whole intention of kicking it back out. His passes also aren’t the most accurate - Rockets should of put a assist clause in his new contract ..maybe he would play more like a PG
KPJ plays like a pg... The style of pg that is Harden and Luka where they dominate possessions and only pass out when it directly leads to an assist. KPJ doesn't want to be the guy who passed out to start a chain of quick passes for a clean look. He doesn't want the hockey assists. He wants the assist.
My biggest gripe about Green is it’s like he has ADD on defensive and can’t stay focused… so many times a game he loses his man ball watching and be like (oh ****!!)
Definitely his largest weakness on defense and we can only pray it's just him being young. It'll be a severe concern for me if he continues his putrid off ball defense into his 3rd and 4th seasons. And off ball defense usually is better when teams have a coherent consistent unit that communicates a lot together. We don't have that so it exaggerates aloofness.
So who's left over Green fans? The obstacles at the beginning of the season have really purified the board. Right now, Jalen averages a respectable 21.5 points on 17.4 shots. Mastering the art of getting to the FT line is RARE in NBA prospects. It's another sign for those who don't believe. He is going to the line almost 6 times a game good for 23rd in the league within striking distance of Devin Booker, James Harden and Nikola Jokic. He is the second youngest of the 23 players ranked higher than him. He is also the 3rd lightest person on that list for now. Here are the top 10 players on that list: Giannis Embiid Doncic SGA Tatum Trae Zion Siakam Morant Pretty amazing company he'll soon be joining, other than Trae. Some indicators are undeniable in the NBA. At this point in Green's career, if he didn't become a star scoring guard, he would be the exception rather than the norm. FTM/FTA has always been an amazing indicator of elite scoring. Underestimate it at your own peril. In a 5-out offense with veterans, this kid would be wrecking a lot of teams single handedly. If you really wanted to design it around him. We are the worst shooting team in the NBA which also means our spacing is horrible. Not to mention our PG is under development which affects guys with off ball games like Jalen and Jabari. Still, he's making it to the line on the regular and starting to find a balance between attacking the rim and making 3pters. Needs to have more good defensive games. I'm shocked people can't see we have our first franchise player in Green. I guess the team's development really clouds things up, but to me his weaknesses and strengths are indicating the development of an elite SG, likely the best in the league in the future.
