The contract itself is what would be in effect immediately. If Tucker signed a 10 year contract with the Astros today, it would cover the next 3 years of arbitration and 7 FA years. Whether or not he got paid 500k the first year, or 50 million, is irrelevant. The 10 years would kick in immediately, has nothing to do with "how the contract is structured."

That was because they had already agreed to salary for that season then the extension was agreed to during Spring training Just like Pressly's extension starts this year despite being agreed to last year.
Contracts don't get torn up in baseball, so yeah your extension starts when it starts. You don't get an advance on your allowance, lol.
Judge regressing to his norm is still a star. Cole is still a star. Cortes takes a step back, but they have other potential rotation improvements. They have a very good team. We have a team that should be better, but I'm not going to dismiss them.

They probably win the East again, it will be up to the Astros to put them in their place again unless they draw Seattle which could possibly take them out. And being the baseball is so random they possibly could lose to someone like the Cleveland Indians. Winning the World Series is the hardest thing to do of any of the sports in my opinion so I don't take these championships lightly. I hope we have a great team again which we should and we spank the Yankees again because that's how it should be.
Yankees could have won it all multiple times during this Astros dynasty. They are consistently good so can’t take that away from them. At the same time they’ve also consistently been put away by their daddy so proclaiming them best anything is a bit premature.

Actually they can structure it however they want. It certainly can begin immediately, or it can begin at the end of the existing one. Sometimes they structure it however it will be best for them tax wise

Tucker isn't currently under contract. He's under team control, but there is no contract yet, bc he's in arbitration. Sure, a team could let it go through arbitration this year and then sign the extension afterwards, at which point the extension would kick in in 2024. This isn't that difficult.
