Jalen’s inconsistency is understandable at his age, but The greats really took a much more consistent leap in year 2. I have my doubts.
Kobe Bryant yr 3 (first year with comparable minutes to Green) MPG 37.9 FG%.465 3p%.267 FT%.839 RPG 5.3 APG 3.8 SPG 1.4 BPG 1.0 PPG 19.9 Jalen Green yr 2 so far MPG 34.4 FG%.419 3p%324 FT%.789 RPG 4.4 APG 3.6 SPG .8 BPG .2 PPG 21.6 I'm not too concerned. And that's comparing him to a serious great, not even just a regular all star.
Most of those said greats would usually have a couple (or more) NCAA seasons under their belt with a good to legendary coach preparing them as well The other notable greats outside of Bron were Kobe/KG who came straight out of HS and were not consistent second yr compared to their prime-apex But Kobe did make the all star team as a starter but wasn't even starting for the Lakers in his second season which was due to the rabid fan base and also winning that all star dunk contest year before helped his popularity as well Which could have happened for Green if he had put on a better show in his dunk contest, maybe he redeems himself this year Kobe took off in yr 4, if Green is playing like he is right now today by his 4th season, then the Rockets blew the pick and Greens work ethic was a smoke n mirror facade
Nothing is more annoying than seeing people compare Jalen Green to Kobe Bryant. They don't even play alike. One relies heavily on his jumpshot while the other was a rim threat in the halfcourt. Jalen can barely dribble to get past his man because his handles are subpar which is why he has the go to step back into a 3 that he uses so often. You're also comparing numbers from an era which was slower to a faster pace era. You're comparing a player that played both ends to someone who gives up on defense. You're comparing someone who has the green light all game to someone who had to suppress his game because of the triangle offense + playing with Shaq. Other than the occasional flashy play, bravado and open court highlights, I really don't see it. Does Jalen have that killer mindset? I really don't know. I doubt Kobe would be reposting IG highlights after losing by 20 even when he was at the tail end of his career. Comparing Jalen to an all time great will just have you more disappointed with his career when you can just enjoy him as an individual. We're lucky if Jalen becomes DeMar Derozan to be honest.
I Am comparing their age and what they showcased as super young pups Kobe avg 7ppg rookie year after being HS player of year, though I get he was draft day traded to a 50 win team, he still didn't take off until age 22 season That is my comparison for them being they came in the league super raw, and the fact they are both SG's I bet after Kobe rookie year he would have been lucky to be Derozan putting up 7ppg Camping in the corner for majority of your rookie year hoping to get a pass as the 3rd and sometimes 4th option is not a green light
take off in what sense? Because at 21 years old, he was taking over in the Finals on a bum ankle after averaging 21/5/6 against the Blazers in the WCF. He was also one of the best defenders at his position. He was a go to guy down the stretch. To me, it just seems like a lot of comparaisons of a guy who's putting up empty numbers on the worst team in the league to a guy who had to sacrifice his game playing in a system that was anti-iso. This is not even a knock on Jalen but on most teams in the league, he wouldn't even see the court for more than 15-20 mins. He's not a positive impact player RIGHT now. Hell, he had the worst plus minus last year in the entire league.
Green and Jabari would look better with a true PG …. Rockets looked best with Harden next to CP3 Move KPJ to SF or bench or trade him
Took off individually by avg 28ppg age 22 The Lakers were a 50+ win team before Kobe even made it there draft day, so I would hope adding young prime Shaq with two other all stars would have them not being bottom feeders and they still had to go thru the Playoff sweeps until they broke thru in 2000, while Portland choked away that series Its a reason why Kobe forced Charlotte to trade him or he would have been Green on a weak team putting up empty calorie stats, so he was smart to go to a 50+ win team on draft day He grew into a go to guy role by shooting those air balls getting swept in playoffs, which paid off down the line Post a list of 19 yr olds in the history of any professional sport who had a tremendous plus-minus, ill wait He avg 15ppg and was starting in the all star game in second yr but not starting for Lakers Who does that?
I honestly think you don't watch the Rockets. Green definitely gets by his man consistently. Hence why teams play zone on us a lot dumbass. And quite frankly.you are.making up **** out of your ass. Green his first two seasons in the NBA has a higher efficiency inside the restricted area than Kobe. Kobe shot 48% at the rim his rookie year. Green 68%. Kobe shot 63% at the rim his second year. Green 65%. Both have a similar percentage of attempts at the rim in their first two years. Kobe drops off significantly in percentage of his points at the rim after his first two seasons also. Where do you even get these narratives. Also there is a difference between creative handles and secure handles. Green has creative handle and elite dribble seperation to get by defenders easily. His security with his handle is what needs improvement. And btw, Green is a better ball handler than Kobe .and that's probably more to do with modern development as most modern guards baseline ball handling entering the league is going to be better than young Kobe.
By playing with Shaq and the Triangle, he had good opportunities attacking the hoop at all times. Derek Fisher essentially just did the corner boy. Nobody is winning 3 championships by the age of 20-24 ever again in a long time not named Kobe. That's just not going to happen easily.
A ship or 3 in this case top all statistical advancements IMO. You basically know as a player what it takes to win a title as a young player and know that you could trust that franchise to deliver eventually which Kobe had doubts about but he stayed. That's the beauty of a team's game and most American fans do not get it because they are all about their superstar players. When you have several stars and blue collar glue guys it could click, the stats could be more balanced.
This isn't true at all, both Jabari and Green miss so many wide open shots created by KPJ, you could bring back John Stockton in his prime and if those two can't hit shots he isn't going to look that good either. Make or miss league, blaming KPJ is blasey. DD
Then why does every human that watches the Rockets that aren't even Rocket fans immediately say "Green and Jabari would do better with a real pg"? Let's be real here. Green gets VERY sporadic open looks from KPJ. Like maybe at most one a game. Again, Green has a higher unassisted rate than primary ball handlers like LaMelo. That isn't an indictment on Green. That is an indictment of the offensive system we run where a player like KPJ is matched up with superstars in time of possession per game.
Lamelo is a very active off-ball player and a significantly better perimeter shooter than Jalen Green. Did you consider these points before making your "indictment"?
LaMelo isn't any more active as Green as an off ball player. And being a better shooter has little to do with generating more of your points off the dribble than having a teammate dime you. The Rockets just don't run offensive systems that allow things like curling actions to get free. Our team barely sets screens for off ball players like you see constantly with motion offenses like The Warriors were Curry without the ball in his hands has teammates setting screens for him.
It's pretty clear that you're unfamiliar with Lamelo's game. And being a better shooter has a lot to do with making field goals which is the crux of your "unassisted fg" argument.
