I am too, and not so high on Reynolds. To be fair, Reynolds would be great as a LF and if the trade value was for an all star level LF. But the expectation is that he is an all star CF which is significantly higher trade value. He will likely have a much better career than Gilbert. Thats just the bottom line. But Gilbert is one of the few players in the Astros system who has a solid chance to be an all star or maybe even a regular starter.
Crane stays away from 9-10+ year contracts, but technically, we have core players who have successfully been with us for that duration: Altuve will have been with us 14 years after 2024. Bregman 9 years after 2024. Yordan 10 years after 2028. Giving Tucker a 10+ year contract shouldn’t be a problem.
This is a bit simplistic First, any 10+ year extension would be for more than Altuve and Bregman TOGETHER have made to date in their career. Second, Tucker has already been in the organization 7 years before any new extension would start so your example does not apply
That’s not necessarily true. Tuckers contract is basically on a year to year basis at this point. He’s under team control but a new deal wouldn’t wait until the end of his arbitration years to start unless they literally waited until he is a free agent.
Granted, just a rumor, but they were shooting for a similar package to what the Nats got for Soto... they need to come to reality.
Tucker and Bregman were drafted the same year. They have been in the organization the same amount of time.
And? That doesn’t mean anything. All that matters is when a player is brought up. Tuck has 3 years of arbitration including next season. If they signed him to a 10 year contract now, it buys out the arbitration years and goes into effect immediately, not at the end of arbitration.
I don't understand where you got any idea about anything starting after arbitration or what that has to do with this conversation? Tucker joined THE ORGANIZATION when he was drafted in 2015. Just because he wasn't in the major leagues does not mean he was not part of the Astros organization. I realize those years do not count towards MLB service time or arbitration but there is still a clock, a time limit the Astris must maintain. That's why Whitley and Perez are on the 40 man MLB roster. The fact that "all that matters is when a player is brought up" is your opinion. Don't tell me mine is wrong.

Sure, Whitley and Perez are on the 40 man roster to prevent them from being taken in the rule 5 draft. I guess you could call that a "time limit".
Not really, that contract would take place immediately. The amount of money for year 1 of 10 would depend on how it is structured, but you can't postdate a contract. It would be in effect immediately.
I think we each misunderstood a bit of what the other was saying I started it by thinking your Bregman would be on the team 9 years after his extension ends meant 2015-2024 not 2016-2024. That's a total error on my part. Cheers and Happy New Year.
