Ya I can see next season being a breaking point that can ruin our rebuild if the wrong decisions are made. Let's see what Ferntits does. I trust your insight so ya it kinda makes me nervous now that he might jump the gun next season.

He's been good on defense since he's been inserted into starting lineup. Kidd has had a tight leash on him, coming off the bench for most of the season and criticizing him at post game conferences. He still has some mistakes, especially while covering p&r or when he misses a rotation, but the effort has been there.

Haha crybabies...THJ had 5-14 FG in this game and hit only three 3s...he hit 4 or more threes 11 times this season, but sure, he's only good against HOU.

Luka and difference in FTA between regular season and playoffs:
    2019/20: RS 9.2, PO 10.7
    2020/21: RS 7.1, PO 7.3
    2021/2022: RS 7.5, 9.0

The amount of dumb statements I read in 2 minutes in a game thread is mind boggling lol

People, don't you at least check a stat or two before you hit Enter?

I guess it's projecting whatever ailed Harden unto other players.

Game ends with 37 FTA for Houston and 25 FTAs for Dallas.

I'd swear we're watching different games...

Yep, that's a fact...for now. I fear the effort will vanish once he signs an extension.

They will not extend him. Extension is 77M/4 years and Dallas pay-roll is already 143M before extension. They do not want to pay luxury tax because of CWood.

Extending CWood is like having a restricted FA. Dallas won't have any cap space to sign anyone and if they trade Wood because they don't want to extend him, they will get much less in return because it's a few months rental.

If Cuban doesn't start to pay some luxury tax soon, Luka will be gone in four years.

This would be great for Dallas of course. They would still need a rim protector, because Wood ain't one, but just having his effort on each possession + his great offense is much greater value than 4/77M he could sign. Especially in two years when salary cap goes up by a considerate amount.

Mavs are fools if they don't extend him.

The Rockets are being outplayed by better talent, and being out coached by better coaches. No amount of grit or determination can overcome these short falls.

    it is… Inevitable

Given how young our team is, I can argue that they are more akin to a college super team then a competitive NBA team. In a few years, a few of them may grow into true stars, but a lot of them will fade away.

Mavs people say CWood needs another big to operate. Signing CWood is not enough alone, if they sign CWood they need another one because J.McGee did not work. CWood signing means 2 signings.Mavs won't do it.

Mavs already have a big that can protect the rim and help Wood on defense, and that's Kleber. The problem with him is you can't play him extended minutes because he injures quickly, and he's 31 or something already. But he's a good 1-2 year insurance until they find a proper rim protector to play next to Wood.

But we're talking only about regular season. In PO, that rim protector won't be able to stay on the floor if he can't hit an outside shot and at least adequately defend the perimeter (Kleber can do all those things, that's why he's so valuable). Even Wood won't be able to stay on the floor if opposing guards will exploit him. However, I've been watching him in Houston when Harden played with him, and watching him in Dallas confirmed what I've seen: he is decent at guarding the perimeter, which is especially valuable to Dallas who likes his bigs to guard p&r on the level of screener and not drop. That's why the signing of McGee was mind boggling. They promised him a starting role, but in more than half of games now he hasn't set foot on court during games.
