has anyone else ever heard todd rundgrens - a wizzard, a true star? i was not aware this even existed until this afternoon, but its one of the weirdest, most psychedelic albums ive ever heard. it reminds me of smile-era beach boys, but even more drugged out. he played all the instruments on the album and recorded it himself. along with mccartneys first album, its regarded as one of the early home recorded albums by a famous artist and it almost tanked his career. he was doing a ton a acid at the time and wanted to recreate the sounds he heard in his head whilst tripping...i think he pulled it off and then some.
jo- I have that album and I need to listen to it again as it has not yet clicked for me. Hanoi Rocks - Two Steps From the Move Saigon Kick - self-titled
im listening to it for the 3rd time in less than 24 hours. its unlike anything ive ever heard. so awesomely strange. its almost as if syd barret circa 1967 was fronting the beach boys instead of pink floyd. i read that tame impala is hugely influenced by it which makes total sense. i can hear it in the production. this is a huge discovery for me. i have no idea how i never heard it till now. i was listening to XTCs skylarking, which rundgren produced and that made me want to go check out some of his solo stuff and i found this.
Well after several weeks doing the hard rock, heavy metal and prog rock thing, I am going to go into a jazz (lots of free jazz), reggae (lots of dub), blues, and electronic music. Will be listening to some under appreciated albums and artists.
This was suggested to me by Youtube. I never made an effort to go find her music, but would listen if I heard it.
Bob Marley - Exodus I-Roy - Exodus The 2nd album is essentially a toasting version of the first - great stuff.
Why the need for structure on this tour of different types of music? If there was some flexibility to add and subtract as needed, you could have said that you will think about adding her.
I bought it when it came out. I'm a longtime Todd Rundgren fan. He's truly a wizard and certainly a star. I saw Nazz, his early group, at the Catacombs in Houston a very long time ago. It was a trip seeing him in a club. His music is all over the map. So's my taste in music. I love Runt, The Ballad of Todd Rundgren (1970). It helps me to relax. I saw him do most of this at the Music Hall. Side one "Long Flowing Robe" – 3:30 "The Ballad (Denny & Jean)" – 3:30 "Bleeding" – 4:05 "Wailing Wall" – 3:05 "The Range War" – 2:38 "Chain Letter" – 5:02 Side two "A Long Time, A Long Way to Go" – 2:12 "Boat on the Charles" – 4:28 "Be Nice to Me" – 3:27 "Hope I'm Around" – 4:55 "Parole" – 4:22 "Remember Me" – 0:51
One problem Mango my friend and that is I don’t own anything by her and I am not looking to add anything new, at least not in the genre of jazz that she does which is not free jazz.
I didn't realize that your own guidelines prevent you from going to Youtube for some of this project. I agree that she isn't like the others in Jazz that you mentioned. She does some fusion stuff that comes across as fun music, but I don't think it can be classified as strictly Jazz.
