That's not enough for some guys.. He needs to be NBA 1st team defense, shoot 50/40/90, have a 3:1 assist/TO ratio, and cut his hair first..
Honestly you have alot of Morey in you . . . The Numbers say TWack > Francis/Mobley/Cato yet The results never did I think this LaMelo trade senario is the same While he may "look better" the results would be the same either in general or that we would spend alot of time trying to replaced what we lost in the Trade I honestly don't think he moves the needle enough to mess with chemistry Rocket River
Exactly. And as a primary number one option shouldn't people who scoff at Green relative to LaMelo at least see what Green is better? Yes obviously LaMelo is a better passer and ball handler but isn't it worrisome that a taller player like LaMelo has a significantly worse fg% in the restricted area than Green? Or is Green just that great at finishing at the rim? And why is Green much better at finishing at the rim? They don't ask these questions. All they look at is box scores. They don't have any clue why a player in terms of basketball talent and eye test is a better player than another player.
Another thing I just found out that actually shocked me in a comparison between Melo and Green: I would assume LaMelo being the primary ball handler AND scorer on his team he would obviously have a unassisted fgm rate higher than Green who is our secondary ball handler behind whoever is the pg on the floor at the time whether it's KPJ or Nix or TyTy. But to my surprise Green has a 60% unassisted rate and LaMelo has a 53% unassisted rate. Not a big difference but it's the reverse of what I expected and does compensate for most of the minor differences in scoring efficiency between the two. That stat also kinda shows how poorly run our offense is if our secondary ball handler has to create so much of his own offense.
I mean a lot of why Green is special is from the eye test to be fair with how electric his play style is.
Did anyone call KPJ a "budding superstar"? Again, how many one way low efficiency scorers who can't consistently create for others or be a primary ball handler end up "superstars"? If he was on any other team you'd laugh at the characterization so stop being a homer
The MJ era really set the bar high especially when he won DPOY, maybe he could flirt with the 50/40/90 down the line but he should never think about cutting his strength(hair), KPJ should have kept his as well, its innate ancient power in the hair
Honestly your analysis of basketball is very superficial. You notice that? Like I've never seen you discuss on court plays, schemes etc. You just find a lose narrative and stick with it. Ya I can make many players look bad if I paint them in a ultra reductive light. None of your analysis has much context.
Green needs to work on his handles for sure but even with that said, he’s already a much more competent scorer than Ball will ever be. I know the numbers are about even, but the bet most Green fans are placing is that Jalen will one day be a prolific top 3 scorer every year once he peaks. I’m not sure Melo will ever reach that, as talented or a ball handler as he is.
Lol this is you trying to deflect because you know you don't have any response to what was just said. It's okay, you're a fanboi, I don't expect you to be capable of objectivity... just stop bashing others for poking holes in your homer hot takes.
There are 2 variables. Under the age of 24 and how good the player is currently. Next season Victor W or Scoot Henderson will not be on this list. That does not mean you get to trade for one of the two because your said player is is top 10 on this list. Which is what this thread and DD’s post is implying. Ball is great I sure the hell would not trade for him personally. My opinion isn’t fact though and can understand if someone would.
Literally the extend of your basketball analysis is "Look at fg%" And repeat common narratives like "bad ball handler". You never explain why or how. You never discuss explicit plays on the court or tactics. It's very superficial. Hey maybe you have a busy family life and the amount of time you can invest in this is limited but your annoyance stems from your matter of fact line delivery which I'm sure is intentional to illicit response but just understand your engagement numbers on Clutchfans can't be monetized so I don't understand the motive to your style of posting besides just having some mental health issues.
This is more of you attempting to avoid the point that was made with vigorous hand waiving.... sorry killer, that doesn't work like you think it does.
sure but laughing at any 20 year old that fits that description would be too quick at best. Both Jalen or KPJ playing SG with a more traditional PG would take a step up in efficiency. I’ve also seen Green get a lot better at passing this year. Mostly on the interior. It seems as well like KPJ is getting better as well. I still think the optimal scenario is KPJ as 6th man a la Jamal Crawford when we make the playoffs in 24-25.
I think that's a VERY unsafe assumption that is effectively attempting to blame others for shortcomings. Right now Green is more streaky than good and that leads to poor efficiency. Could it change? Of course, but we can't act as though it's a certainty. I think calling ANY player on the Rockets a "budding superstar" should be met with laughter based on what we've seen thus far. That's simply too extreme of a statement with essentially nothing whatsoever to support it.
Streaky is the very nature of a young player precisely due to their lack of experience and not having their body fully developed in terms of muscle mass. That is what causes streakiness. If you think LaMelo is not streaky well their scoring efficiency isn't even that far off. Seperated by only 1% in ts%. And also what is so surprising about their scoring profile is that you would assume that LaMelo being the primary ball handler and scorer of the team who has the most touches would generate more of his buckets unassisted than Jalen who is a secondary ball handler. But surprisingly LaMelo is around 53% of his attempts unassisted and Jalen is at 61% of his attempts unassisted. Honestly it's an indictment of how poorly our team is run if our secondary ball handler scoring guard generates a larger percentage of his own offense which means more difficult looks rather than easy looks than a primary ball handling playmaker. This offensive system isn't generating many easy looks for any one. Players are scoring based off individual talent.
