Haha lets get back on track. We're digging into school rankings, recruits, receivers. Lol T-Law didn't win each year. Just like Maye and Williams lost big games as well.
Did they play for Alabama? What QBs before Young at Alabama won championships would be a more apples to apples comparison.
Since we're talking about drafting undersized QB's, I'd like to introduce another one into the discussion--Jake Haener, Fresno State. He could be someone we take in 5th-6th round to develop. He's only in 6' range and about 200 lbs, but some sensational games and career stats--68TD/18INT, over 9K yards, 68% career completion and 72% this year. Had broken ankle early this year and returned to play. Led team to Mountain West Championship as a Junior. Not saying he's a savior, but worth a look in later rounds. https://abc30.com/bulldog-breakdown-jake-haener-reflects-on-career-fresno-state-football/12588779/ Here's a video from UCLA game. What I like is it shows the good, the bad and the ugly versus just highlights... https://draftwire.usatoday.com/list...ener-fresno-state-highlights-film-room-video/ Ourlads take...
You can use whatever you like as an aggregate. Bottom line is there are scouting services with 2nd round grades on Burton and Brooks. The thing is, you’re proving my point. There are multiple players on Bama as good or better than any on UNC. And that’s before we talk about Oline
Doesn’t prove anything because UNC and USC play in inferior conferences where they don’t have to go up against SEC defenses who have more talent. As for Burton and Brooks, not one person on this board would pick them in the 2nd round and you know it. They’re not even close to John Metchie or George Pickens who were 2nd rounders last year.
Here we go with the obsession with stars again. How many stars did Mahomes or Allen have? Was Elon Musk the Homecoming King?
Keep moving those goalposts. Has nothing to do with their stars, talent is talent. You keep trying to minimize ridiculous talent at Bama to prop up Young’s down season-by his standards. It’s just not true, for one. They’re still as talented as any top 5 team in the country. Also, if Young can only perform with elite receivers he’s not a number 1 pick. But you keep up with the excuses
No I’m trying to have a nuanced discussion where we can evaluate prospects as objectively as possible which requires assessing the talent around then and their circumstances in a realistic way. What you guys are doing is trying to argue in extremes. Never have I said that Young doesn’t have talent. I said he has much less than last year. That’s a fact, not an excuse. I hear the same arguments for Maye and Williams when it comes to their poor offensive line, and I acknowledge that fact and continue the discussion. For some reason that’s not possible for you guys without resorting to talking about excuses and midget p*rn. I guess it’s not possible to have a mature discussion here without extreme hyperbole being injected.
I’m fine with a nuanced conversation, but there’s a difference between nuance and bias. Objectively speaking, Bama has a down year in terms of talent, but they’re still miles better talent wise than UNC. Posters have cherry picked games from Maye to denigrate him (as a first year starting red shirt freshman on a team expected to be bad) but don’t keep that same parameters for Young. Posters continue to gloss over the size issue, it is real, very real. Either way it goes, I think Young is a super talented QB. But he has just as much bust potential, if not more than any other elite prospect. Like Williams and Maye.
I would agree with this, You just don't know how good he will be in the NFL and I tend to shy away from QB`s from Alabama because the skill positions are far and away superior then the opponent which can hide flaws. Tua is a god example, when he has Hill and Waddle he looks great at times and then you have the 4th qtr 3 interceptions last game and it makes me go hmmmmmmm. I "think" Young will be a good QB but as with any pick you never know and I would hate to waste 2 years just to find out he wasn't the Young we saw at Alabama but a product of the system.
Will Anderson, Carter, or any other 2 top 10 picks give us 1-2 more wins next year? If so, Williams/Maye is out of the picture.. we are damn close to not even having 1st overall pick THIS year. But y’all ready to punt to next and hope for the best. most Texans thing ever: skip on Young, then accidentally win too many games and miss out on Williams/Maye next year. Or worse, get 2nd highest pick but one of Williams/Maye had severe regression. And Young is pulling a Brees on whatever team he goes to.
So you are in the draft a QB because they need a QB mode. Doesn't matter how good he is as long as he can get you to mediocre you're good. After all Young will win a few more games and provide excitement. But there will be no championships, you good with that?
So let’s get the logic correct - QB wins championship, they can only lead an NFL team? Let’s say Bennett? Mac Jones? Just want to make sure I get your parameters correct.
