We will not go from worst in the league to Super Bowl contender by adding a quarterback only. We need the rest of the team around the QB. And it's a multi-year process. If a franchise QB is not on the board in the 2023 draft, which is my thought, then don't force the pick and bypass superior talent. Picking a bad QB at the top of the draft is the catastrophic scenario that ensures that we would suck for another 3 years. Trades, free agency, and future drafts are all possibilities for finding the right QB. Not every top flight QB is taken at first overall. In fact, few are. When the right QB is available, pounce. If not, then don't force a bad pick... instead take available talent and build a stout team.... that then enables you to win without Patrick Mahomes/Josh Allen type of talent at QB. The Seahawks were a prime example.... the Rams with Stafford.... the Eagles with Nick Foles...
I stopped following the Texans, but why not trade for Zach Wilson and use the top picks on other areas, and address QB in next years draft if Wilson in fact busts? He was the no. 2 pick just a few years ago
I think he is! A QB who has played in the SEC, who has shown the ability to be a leader, who has shown to have a nice arm, mobility, the IQ and to flourish under pressure! Under any circumstances, that's a franchise QB and his name is Bryce Young.
Alabama has only missed the college football playoffs once in 8 years. And they missed it this year with Bryce Young as QB. Young is too small to withstand the significant increase in size/speed that comes with playing in the NFL. Young's arm strength leaves something to be desired. "Under pressure" on the last drive of the championship game last year, Young tossed a pick 6 to effectively end it. That's not a top overall draft pick.
Whether or not Young is the top pick is obviously up for debate, but blaming him for the fact that Alabama didn’t make the playoffs while ignoring that they play in the gauntlet that is the SEC west, they’re recruiting power has wained, they don’t have a current elite skill player on offense other than the RB, a very average OLine, and Bill O’Brien as their OC, those factors have has significant more impact on Bama football than Bryce Young being small.
If a QB can't lead ALABAMA, with all of their talent and advantages, to a top 4 slot in college football, then how in God's name will they lead the Houston Texans to the promised land? Just sayin...
That talent and advantages are fading. Not arguing that Bryce is or isn’t the pick(I prefer Caleb Williams myself) but he’s not to blame for Bama not making the CFP. Honestly and ironically one of the biggest culprits is in fact BoB’s offensive play calling, which has been horrible
Well he beat Georgia in the SEC championship when he had Metchie and Williams at receiver and then lost without them. I think that speaks more to the massive drop off in receiver talent because those same receivers also struggled this year. There’s an entire breakdown by a former nfl qb on YouTube on the National Championship game and it’s obvious to anyone who watched it that the receivers just couldn’t catch the ball or get open. When people jump to the Alabama talent line without any nuance it just shows their inability to watch or evaluate film and it throws their assessments of all prospects into question.
your examples for cherry picking a quarterback in free agency kind of suck #premium post how good were the rams in year two of stafford? how good were the eagles in year two of Foles? You hoping for a one and done? I’m not. We’ve waded in mediocrity and flat out poor play for far too long. I want something sustainable. you can successfully argue that high draft pick quarterbacks are a huge gamble - but if you’re looking to build a sustainable winner - it flat out requires a quality young quarterback on a rookie scale contract This is why the Seahawks were a powerhouse in Russels early years If the team determines there is no quarterback worth a high selection in this draft - I would rather stick with mills than pick up an also ran.
To be clear, you want to forego drafting a QB in this draft, then add a stopgap QB to establish a winning culture and win just enough games to keep us out of contention for drafting a top QB next year as well????
If you're a FOLLOWER of Alabama Football, I think you can clearly see this is not a normal level of talent as in years past. With that being said, they only lost two games by less than one score. Like with any QB, the more weapons you have, the better you look. If this team had Bryce Young this yr, I think they are in the hunt for a playoff spot. You can ALWAYS build up a defense with future picks but you can't always find a franchise QB
Everyone needs to stop acting like it's a question if the Texans will take Young with the top pick in the draft. They are going to win out and trade their top two picks in the first to draft Young. Never expect the best outcome with the Texans. Always go with the worst.
Lol do we play this game with Drake Maye? Kid couldn’t beat one of the WORST defenses in college football. then how in God's name will they lead the Houston Texans to the promised land? Just sayin...
Yeah, UNC and Bama have similar talent. You’re right. Young would have been killed with that Oline by game 3.
One of the worst defenses in college football. Doesn’t matter what talent level your team has, who cares about the first team ACC WR. lol just using Trader’s lameo argument.
Bad games happen with freshman, still had an elite season. Killed a Notre Dame defense that shut down Ohio St It’s weird you go after Mayes bad games but not Young or Williams
I want to forgo drafting a QB at 1.01 who would carry a 3rd or 4th round grade if he didn’t play for a powerhouse program. He’s too small and his arm is too weak for the NFL.
