ah embiid the adored embodiment of the process, worshiped by dumbalyticians and media, whose superb rim protection, 3pt shooting, midrange game, and deadly pnr with Harden, the best NBA PG failed against max struss, martin caleb, gabe vincent and kyle guy...

I don't really follow much post game interviews but has there been a reporter that has asked Stone or Silas bluntly "are you guys going to find a pg for this team soon?".

Does the coaching staff understand the harm it causes for young developing players when they don't have a sound pg on the team? Do they understand these young players are going to make or break your careers in the future if they don't develop and become part of a winning core?

If someone asked that, they'd tell them that they already have one, just like if they asked about getting a SG or PF.

You have to realize that the narratives pushed by casuals only resonate among the casuals.

kpj can't run an offense since he lacks the court vision and passing ability. Thats not a casual take, anybody who watches basketball can tell.

Dude, KPJ can be part of the future core of this team. Maybe he can be a competent pg with more reps but this team needs a CURRENT competent pg. KPJ can perform playamking duties as a primary ball handler in situational minutes throughout the game. He isn't a full time pg. He isn't helping young developing players because he also is a young developing player.

KPJ's issue is that the dude spam dribbles without allowing a connecting flow for an offense. He refuses to simply be an initial play starter. He wants to be the one who starts the play and the one who either directly scores or directly make the assist. He is incapable of doing things like multiple passes in a two man screen game. The ball just sticks to him.

It's why someone with worse handles like Green has a lot more assists per time of possession. It's because Green at the very least is willing to do an immediate pass as soon as he breaks the initial perimeter defense and then repositions off ball for someone like Sengun to work a two man game. KPJ just doesn't do that.

He dribbles the ball as much as prime CP3 without any of the court vision. It really stagnates the offense and on top of that it makes young developing players into observers.

It is literally the primary observation every human who watches a Rocket game makes. Every non Rocket fans who watches this team will first say "this team has a lot of talent" and then say "KPJ isn't a pg".

    1. Green gets 23 through 3 periods .. ends with 23
    2. KPJ gets 5 assists in the 1st half... ends with 6
    3. Sengun gets 12 and 6 at half. ends with 15 and 8
    4. Nix gets 4 minutes in 1st half. ends with 20

Rockets down by 10 in first 6 minutes of the game, down by 18 before half, leads by 4 in 3rd, ends losing by 7..

    Clockwork!

The "real PG" narrative is pushed by those who fundamentally misunderstand what the Rockets want for the future and what the future is the league will be.

The Rockets want to go with 2 combo guards for the future, with KPJ and Green eventually that'll work... but both of them are super young and need to develop more before it goes smoothly.

Given that it's a development year, it's not a bad thing to get the growing pains out of the way now because it'll pay dividends in the future.

Bringing in a vet traditional PG would harm the development of both KPJ and Green but would probably be a bit more aesthetically pleasing in the short term.

It seems the Rockets were far too spoiled for far too long, they can't stomach developing seasons.

KPJ is a developing Combo guard, anyone that understands development can see that.
