Attacking the metric when you don't like what the metric says....

I guess it's meaningless for every other player too. Jokic and Luka aren't actually good, they are just better than their backups.

See how stupid you guys make yourself seem due to your religious devotion to false narratives?

It's a shame Jalen Green and Sengun aren't better than their backups or they'd be on the list too

Huh? That's a weird interpretation of what I said. I'm not attacking the metric at all, there's nothing to attack. I don't like or dislike what the metric says, I'm examining the metric to understand what it means and what it says. I never said it means that KPJ is bad, the metric doesn't say anything about whether KPJ is doing a good job or a bad job, it's only showing us how he's doing relative to his backups. And relative to those other options, he is doing much better.

Jokic and Luka are both really good, as is Steph Curry. It's also true that those three teams all struggle massively whenever those three players sit this year. And all three teams have been criticized for it, and rightfully so, it's a flaw in team construction. My entire point is that this stat is only showing performance relative to your backup(s).

Again, it's unfortunate that Green and Sengun apparently aren't better than their backups or they would be in the list too.

I'm pointing out that by trying to dismiss the metric because you don't like what it says, you are accidentally throwing shade at other players on the Rockets.

Yes, correct. In terms of generating quality shots for their teammates, Green and Sengun are not good enough compared to their backups to show up on this list. That is a correct interpretation of the stat. I don't know what you mean when you say it's unfortunate.

I'm not dismissing it. I'm recognizing what it means. It means that "lets bench KPJ" is not something that would make this team better. With the players getting minutes on this roster, it is clear that the non KPJ lineups are much worse offensively than the KPJ lineups.

Cp3 is not a fair comparison because he is not a backup guard. It depends on many things but mainly actual play relative to your replacement and how well the 5s you are in are constructed relative to the fives you are not in.

imagine kpj2 is the replacement of kpj1. Their corresponding stats will be determined by line ups though they are the same player. One will be the negative of the other.

I'm saying it's unfortunate because their backups are absolutely pathetic at creating quality shots for their teammates.... so if Green and Sengun aren't significantly better than the likes of Garrison Matthews and Bruno Fernando at creating shots for others it's a VERY bad thing.

Well that's not exactly what's happening, it's not a direct comparison to one singular backup. It's a direct comparison of your on/off minutes.

So to use Jalen as an example, it's taking teammate shot quality when Jalen is on the court compared to teammate shot quality when Jalen is off the court. It's all the lineups where this is the case. So even when Jalen is on the court, KPJ is the one handling the ball most of the time. So it's hard for Jalen to make an impact in regards to "teammate shot quality" when he's not the one determining the teammate shot quality, same goes for Sengun. And similarly when these guys are off the court, a lot of those minutes still have KPJ as the ball handler. The stat isn't trying to compare Jalen ball handling possessions to Garrison Matthews ball handling possessions or anything like that. It's just comparing the total on/off minutes.

Another thing to consider with this stat is that it's a per-100 possession stat, but it's counting all possessions, not just possessions where you control the ball. So to use Jalen Green as an example again, how many of those 100 possessions is he directly impacting the shot quality of his teammates? Not a whole lot. So with this stat in particular it's hard to have a big impact when you aren't the primary playmaker.

Jalen has been handling the ball a ton more these last few weeks.....he is sharing the load more and more.

Credit where credit is due, he played well tonight and was the second best Rockets player tonight, which is a great improvement for him.

I hope he can continue to improve.

Well its pretty funny that I predicted at the beginning of the 4th that he would take all of the shots in the 4th. He usually does that if Jalen or Sengun are having a good game. He gets jealous and starts chucking. Every once and awhile he makes the shots but most games he doesnt and its to the Rockets detriment. Imagine sucking at your job 90% of the time but having a great day and being like "Suck it hater" to your boss lol

He played very well tonight. I would like nothing more than to see this as the beginning of a trend. No buts.
