He should be penalized for being a dick Can't believe any of you would entertain the idea of this douche on our team.
It’s not a vile position. Because that’s how it works when it comes to assault and sexual assault cases. The burden is on the defendant to prove his innocence, that is how those cases are worked. Abusers typically show signs of being abusers no matter if you think they are innocent or not.
Ok then why not see if we can get Lourdes Gurriel from the Dbacks? They still have a boat load of OFers. So why not try and nab him? He is a good player
Just because a case doesn’t result in charges or a conviction does not mean a person is innocent especially being sexual assault cases require a high threshold for conviction. Hell, many cases go unreported on college campuses itself.
There is a lot of opining on this topic (not just with Bauer, but with Bridges and the Hornets, and crimes and domestic violence in general). I’ll throw in my two cents as a former prosecutor for ~6 years in Houston, so take it or leave it. I feel like I have (or had) a pretty good understanding of the criminal justice system, as I handled everything from murder and homicides to aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robberies, and on down to domestic violence cases with cooperative and uncooperative complainants and petty misdemeanors. It is a complex system with many moving parts and variables, and unfortunately, a lot of inefficiencies. Even aside from judges and probation/pre-trial release supervision (which is a whole other story), police agencies and officers have varying abilities to build (or fail to properly build) cases that can stand up in court. These cases are highly volatile and, frankly, easy to mess up, which is magnified and worsened by how clogged the entire criminal justice system is (also another mind-boggling and really sad, story). It is not as binary as did it happen, check mark, okay, here’s the charge, check mark, and here’s the conviction. First, there many reasons why a DA Office may not accept a charge even if there is probable cause to believe a crime occurred. Even if the charge is accepted, there are many reasons why the case might not end in convention (again, even if it did occur). Similarly, that doesn’t even beg the question of which incidents are even presented by police agencies seeking charges, let alone they are investigated and prosecuted correctly. Since leaving the DA Office, I’ve helped clients call police and report crimes accordingly, only for police agencies to gravely fail to investigate/charge properly, which is irrespective of whether the suspect did the crime and would likely be found guilty. The reality is that the system is clogged with too many crimes and not enough man/woman-power to effectively conclude all of the cases in an appropriate time. So, you are absolutely correct—just because a case doesn’t end in conviction, or an incident charged, to me, has little bearing as to whether the incident happened. Or, for purposes of Bauer, whether he is a scumbag deserving of playing professional baseball. FWIW, I do believe in second chances and am generally okay with *some* of these players getting another shot. People make mistakes and are not perfect. Last side note, society’s socio-economic realities have profound effects on the CJ system, and that is often a narrative missing in these hyper sensitive storylines and/or how to address the underlying issues. But yes, criminal cases are dismissed, or plainly not filed, for a variety of reasons. Go Astros.
The “defendant” proved to be innocent. Stop with the virtue signaling, as if you are more appalled by abuse than others here are. Looks more like he was targeted by a scam artist than anything else. There is not, and never was, a good reason to believe her over him. If you were just mad about what he said about the Astros well then that’s a different story.
No, I hope Bauer never throws a single pitch in an Astros uniform. Besides, I feel highly confident that after the Osuna trade and the following PR nightmare that continued well after the deal was made, Crane is not going to go down that road again.
Not sure if you are joking but here’s an article about them. I’m guessing Alex would be against Bauer https://www.mlb.com/news/trevor-bauer-alex-bregman-twitter-feud
First, no… it wasn’t different in “the old days”… if a man beat a woman’s face like Bauer beat his victims face, he would get his face caved in. Second of all, people form their own opinions all the time regardless of the legal system. OJ Simpson was found not guilty and everyone thinks he did it. Same with a number of other people. Third, if you want to “kick my ass”, good luck with that one. The reality is you will likely be at a major size, stature and training disadvantage. If you want to break bread with a man that beats and rapes multiple women, that’s on you. I’m cool trotting out guys that are not monsters.
Because knowing this attitude exists, no woman or women would ever use this to extort a man successfully. Replacing NEVER believing an accusation with ALWAYS believing an accusation leaves society no better. We have to learn to separate our revulsion of the crime from determining whether accusations are true or not. Now if you don't want him here because of his slanderous and hypocritical stance on the "cheating" scandal, then there's plenty of evidence to confirm this.
We don't need a guy who throws left handed when we have 4 guys who throw right handed that can get left handed batters out. And none of those mentioned can do the job any better. Let the lefty righty thing die like a dinosaur. It's a generalization from pre analytics.
Maybe and maybe not. But it appears accusations are all that's needed because the evidence is hidden. I believe no one at this point. Not Bauer and not anonymous women. Not even so called experts with an agenda.
