I think Montero, Abreu, and Brantley are 3/4 of a perfect off season. All that is needed is a catcher. Varsho would have been nice but I like the outfield as it is.
Wow congrats Dbacks for pulling off that trade. Not sure what the hell Toronto is thinking. Gurriel for Varsho would have been a wash to me. Yikes.
Moreno is a consensus top 10 prospect. Hard to top that. I imagine he's viewed as even more valuable than Brown, for starters, and he has the entire clock of team control left. Not a fan of trading just to trade, but I support trading from a position of strength (OF, for example) and maybe some pitchers. Why? Good to make the team stronger and parlay prospects into proven MLB talent. As I've stated, look at Whitley, Reed, Martes, Nova, Toro, Kemp, etc - sat on them for a long time, and then their value faded.
Something else to note - Diamondbacks still want a RHH infielder (unless they see Lourdes Gurriel as an infield option). I think they're now a possible team for Yuli as at least a bench/rotational player. I imagine he'd love to play alongside his brother. Plus, the Brent Strom factor (I know he's the pitching coach and Yuli is not a pitcher, but still, helps to be familiar with someone on the coaching staff).
I'm glad Varsho is off the table now so we can stop talking about trading Brown and more for him. Looking up Lourdes states, his power went down dramatically last year as well. I wonder what him and Yuli did last off season. I see a bounce back year for Yuli .275 with 15-20 HRs if he played almost every day, but after that his age will definitely be a concern.
If I'm the Astros I'm calling the Dbacks as we speak and asking about Moreno and Thomas . And offering Garcia and Whitley to see where there head is at
Moreno and Thomas would be perfect here as up and comming and learning players. We could essentially have our future set in line. I would even bump the offer up and see what they say Garcia, Whitley, Lee, Maton and Meyers
Shoot even Loudis I would ask about what a trifecta of players you could go for to shore up this lineup for years to come
YEP Chaz should never sit vs a LHP Dusty's day to day lineup decisions are awful and hard to even wrap your mind around. The players for the most part seem to like him though, and his easy going way probably works well for them over the course of the long season. I'm sure the FO understands the give and take and as long as they know they can force his hand on lineups once the playoffs come around, they can continue to win with him. Heck, if one of his past teams would have done the same he may have more than one title
I don’t think you’re aware if the team is or isn’t forcing his hand with the lineups. Dusty wanted Peña in the 2hole Click didn’t. The hate is getting a little old around here.
