I love his style of play and all-around game. Would also be a perfect clubhouse fit. Like Pena, Brantley, and McCullers, he is a second-generation MLB player.
broad generalization that misses the point and is inaccurate no - he's not a criminal. Doesn't mean I want that mess on my team. If you do - well, that's like, your prerogative man I'd prefer to not have a team of low lives
I like him as well and think he would be the perfect addition. However Diamondbacks are on record as wanting an "equivalent MLB or MLB ready right handed infield bat" for him. Unless they consider Diaz an "infielder" and/or want Hensley I don't see a match. Pena isn't going anywhere.
I like the concept. Varsho more proven and can play catcher, but I would prefer Alek Thomas for this type of scenario. Let him compete with Meyers for CF. If neither put it together you go back to Chas. I’m ok signing a vet catcher to a minor league deal for depth and seeing what Lee/Diaz have (I wouldn’t trust just the rookies if Maldonado got a long term knock).
Obviously the season hasn't started but does anyone have an idea on potential mid season acquisition targets? It seems like that route might be a better option to fill any roster gaps.
The 40 man roster is at 38. Those two spots are probably going to be filled by an experienced middle infielder and catcher to park in AAA and have available in case of injury.
Wow. Huge trade. There go both the Varsho and the Danny Jansen (we can assume he and Kirk both stay put) fantasies. Arizona has Carroll (untouchable, per their FO), Thomas, and McCarthy, plus a few other guys like Pavin Smith (Kyle Lewis is there too but probably will be limited to DH). It is possible Thomas or McCarthy may be on the move but it looks like probably not at this point. Reynolds (and maybe Kepler) seems to be the last domino.
