Read the MLB press release. There was wrong doing. He's got a screw loose to say the least and his sexual proclivities hint to major underlying problems. It's a hard pass C-Bass. You add that kind of nutjob when you strike out on every possible player and are trying to remain relevant (SF Giants). Not coming off a world series when you are already viewed as the bad guy for doing no more than the balance of competitive teams were doing and your the vegas favorites to win it again. Hold course and make what ever additions you need at the trade deadline.
Whatever people might think of Bauers conduct and criminality, it is indisputably a reputational and business decision as to whether to sign him. Bad teams have no incentive to take on that mess. Who among the playoff contenders would? I don’t see it. I’d be very surprised if Bauer pitched in 2023. Watson is a totally different story. First, QB is the most valuable position in all of sports. Second, I’d argue that his actions don’t come close to what Bauer is alleged to have done and whats shown in photos. Bauer is a lot closer to Ray Rice, who never got a sniff.
A lot of people failing to see that you can be a total piece of **** without technically being a criminal.
I would like to see them sign a veteran catcher and that's it. Maybe a relief pitcher if they find a guy or deal they specifically like. Otherwise the 26 man is set Framber, Lance, Javier, Garcia, Urquidy, Pressly, Neris, Montero, Abreu, Stanek, and Maton are locks. Brown can't do anything else in AAA and warned his spot last year and in the playoffs. That leaves 1 spot for Martinez, Paredes, Taylor, Mushinski or anyone they bring in. Position players: Maldy, Abreu, Altuve, Alex, Pena, Yordan, Chas, Tucker, Brantley, Dubon are locks. That leaves 3 spots including a b/u catcher and likely a starting CF. Catcher is straight forward. They REALKY need to bring someone in for depth and experience. If not Lee makes the team. Diaz would have value if he could DH but with Brantley back there are no DH ABs available and no roster spot for a 3rd catcher. Diaz simply isn't ready to be a #2 catcher, only DH and #3. I do not see any outside options for CF that make sense. If the team had finally decided that Chas earned the spot, they wouldn't have been talking about upgrading the position ever since Tucker caught that foul fly ball. That means Meyers or Leon are the options to start the season in CF. I'm sure Jake is by far the most likely, but word is that Dusty and Bagwell both love Leon. One of them gets a roster spot the other is in AAA. That leaves 1 spot and only Dubon as a b/u infielder. That means that Hensley is the only option that makes sense unless they bring someone in from outside. Sorry Diaz and Matijevic there is no room for you right now and any players brought in will make it harder to make the roster not easier.
I wasn't the one who started make believe pasts that changing one thing to justify a position. I just tried to match it as closely as possible for the opposing position. Winning a World Series involves a lot of luck even if every series your team is the most talented. Granted, his position is a little stronger it is easier to not win a World Series than it is to win one.
Having 2 40 man roster spots open is a good thing. 1st, they NEED to sign a catcher who will take up one, even if he ends up in AAA. The second can be used if the team signs a RP. I think a lefty is very possible if not likely. If the team has an injury to the starting rotation in a part of the schedule where they want to have a 6 man rotation then using it for a guy like Jayden Murray makes sense. If it's just a spot start I think Bielak gets it but if it's multiple turns they may want to see one of the other starters.
Tip of the cap to Crane, and the smorgasbord of advisors, for making 3 great signings so far this offseason. The prices have been crazy but Montero, Abreu and Brantley were great signings. Especially when you compare Montero and Brantley to Rogers and Conforto. I hope the remaining ~20M budget can be put to good use on vet filler or trades to continue to reinforce a team with few weaknesses for now or the future (I do hope it is spent!). Whoever said arguing over backup CF and Catcher is a good problem to have is right on.
That's rubbish. Tito has way too much integrity for that. And with all that great young talent the last thing they need is a cancer to foul up that situation.
Daulton Varsho would solve both, to at least some extent. 100 games at CF, 25 at LF, 25 at C, 5 at DH. I'd offer to take on MadBum and $28M of his remaining salary to help lower the cost. Offer Urquidy (Strom loves him) as one piece, and then some of Diaz, Perez, Bielak, Tamarez, Paredes, Whitaker, and Kessinger as second/third pieces. Maybe try to add Mantiply if we want a lefty reliever.
Or Francona is senior enough to be able to get the team to buy in. I only mentioned them because that's where he came up and that city is already used to welcoming a known sex deviant.
