My guess is he's at best a scum bag, but possibly/likely a sex offender and/or rapist if as you say he went further than was acceptable to them. On talent..he mostly was average with one good year before he really got into having high spin rates to rejuvenate his middling career. According to him, this type of jump in spin rates can only be achieved through cheating.
He might be signed. But I'm not sure he's good enough to be worth the negative publicity. Remember, before he started using foreign materials on the ball, he had a 4.48 ERA in 2019. In addition to being an abuser, he's a cheat.
He got pulled once for a pinch hitter in the 9th (though the pinch hitter sucks against RHP as much as him) and pulled outright one other time, and was moved to left 3 times. Meyers got pulled once which for defensive purposes is very similar and made my mind erroneously think Chas. So it did happen less than I thought to Chas regarding being pulled from the game. Dubon finished 6 wins in CF. 6 more than it should have been.
Apparently he’s quite the douche bag in the locker room as well. Cleveland would probably be the only team that gives him a second chance.
Except we know from Nook that the front office wanted to get rid of Yuli entirely from the postseason roster and not have Dusty play Pena in the 2 slot during the postseason. Presumably, part of the reason Click is gone is that Dusty won out on those arguments - and the players performed amazingly. If the front office controlled the lineups in the postseason, we might not be celebrating a WS right now.
Sure - or they might not have made the playoffs the last 3 years. Who really knows. But the difference is that my hypothetical uses specific decisions made by Dusty vs the front office and those players performing brilliantly in the roles he wanted to put them in. Yours seems to be based on some hatred of him not doing what you'd do.
And if AJ wasn’t the manager in 2019 and didn’t pull Greinke too early in game 7, we would probably be celebrating our 3rd WS right now. See how easy that is to do?
The Astros came close to winning 3 World Series the past 3 years. My thought comes purely from a small change possibly flipping one of the other two years. Your depends on a small change possibly flipping one of one years. You blindly love Baker even when he makes questionable decisions on the field as much as I hate Baker for questionable decision he makes on the field. I was just mirroring your view and responded as close to a tit for tat response as I could. Edit: I think the Astros have an incredibly great team, and the manager on field decisions typically only affect 2 or 3 games +/- in the regular season except if the manager is incredibly bad (playoffs has a lot of randomness in it). I hate some of Dusty's on field decisions, but I don't think he's costing the Astros as much as some managers. Some of his decisions are just really frustrating to me.
Ironically, people claimed they wanted JV pulled in game 1 after the Castellanos hit (which led to their first run). Said any decent manager would have known he was “done” right then/there. And Harris threw a perfect pitch…
Guilt by accusation, got it. We are taking our Justice system back to pre-colonial 17th century days with this type of thinking. No charges after 5 months of review. No evidence of wrongdoing. He paid the price and served his time, losing tens of millions of dollars and having his reputation permanently damaged. Yet that's still not good enough for some. Imagine if this were your son being accused. Would you be satisfied with how justice was administered if people thought of him as guilty despite no evidence or charges? This is why society and the justice system have advanced/matured beyond the guilt by accusation days.
So the Astros have 2 more roster spots open. What do they do ? Add a veteran starting pitcher like Kluber + a utility bench player like Yuli or Longoria ? Or would we still go for a lefty in the bullpen ? GM Bagwell has some thinking to do …
Imagine feeling the need to come on an Astros forum and defend Trevor Freaking Bauer. Whether he’s guilty or not, he’s not a dude I want on the Stros nor one I would stand up for, but you do you, I guess.
Virtue signal received. But seriously, my point stands on principle. The point is bigger than Trevor Bauer, Roberto Osuna, or any another player -- it's a system of thinking. Cancel culture is awful and takes our justice system back centuries. Bauer will pitch in MLB in 2023 and will make an impact -- that's for sure. The Astros are in a place where they don't need the risk of him on the team... but several other teams looking to climb the ranks will assume the risk.
And if we won in 2019, perhaps Fiers doesn't go public, Cole re-signs, gets Covid in Houston and infects the entire team causing mass hysteria. Horses stampede, Galveston floods, Locusts bombard and soon we are in a virus filled apocalypse where the dead roam and eat the flesh of unsuspecting victims. Why, WHY would you want that?
