Not a long standing tradition but I'm all for it. Trump has problems being successful in any most business other than grift.

I'm really not understanding the push to make the returns public. I mean I understand but really don't think there is a valid argument.

This https://ylpr.yale.edu/presidential-tax-transparency, from Yale Law, summarizes legislation put in place in 2021 to make candidates 's and president's returns public. It says the most important thing it would reveal is if a candidate is evading taxes.

One of my biggest issues with having to disclose tax returns is we already have an agency whose purpose is making sure you pay your taxes. Why do we need to force someone so the public can do the IRS's job?

The IRS has one ****ing job. This is not a legitimate argument and Democrats pursuing this only play into the hand of people who already support the January 6th people

I’ve read through this thread and let me point out three things:
    1. The IRS doesn’t actually know if you’ve cheated on your taxes unless they conduct an audit. That’s the purpose of an audit.

    2. The public doesn’t know someone cheated on their taxes unless that is made public through the release of tax records.

    3. Yes the Ways and Means committee does have the power to request, review and release individual tax records. They do it rarely because in modern times there rarely is a case of a President who hasn’t publicly released their tax records and who also has been associated with fraud. For example settling over a fraudulent university and being forced to disband their foundation for defrauding charities for veterans.

OP has TDS really badly. Why do you have to throw insults around to make your IQs higher than 60? A couple of posters have different options of what you posted, so what? You sound like a douche man.

Why are you so offended about Cheeto man being criticized? That's the perks of being a president. You get to be in the limelight for all the good and bad.

You get to have to dick suckers like yourself and people who hate him like me.

The IRS will audits someone if their is a reason to. That's what they are there for. It's not my job your job or any other random person who doesn't work for them. That is not a reason to make someone's returns public

Edit: when saying audits happen if the IRS believes it should happen I'm just saying in general. I'm not arguing Trump should not be audited

What are you arguing about ?

It seems like you are on some mental health episode.

    This makes no sense.

IIRC the IRS chooses most of its audits somewhat randomly. If you “fail” your audit, you get signed up automatically for audits for the next 5 or so years.

Ok I stand corrected but that doesn't change my overall point . I don't care about him being audited my issue is people believing his returns should be public especially from before him being president

Edit: they are random and because of suspension

You really haven't explained why you have a problem with it besides expressing you have a problem with it. People have expressed why presidents should release their tax returns.

Prior would be Presidents release their tax forms (and other financial statements) to show the public that they are not beholden to someone else.

For example, if Trump had $1 billion invested in Tesla common stock, Trump would be self interested in Tesla and should be questioned extensively over any decisions that impact Tesla favorably.

I have addressed with the main issue of determining who pays a president in terms of conflicts of interest.

It is your right as a voter to vote for someone else if that's your concern but I don't feel it is a reason to make them public

Don't be a jerk in your first response for no reason with the mental health bullshit. No need for that especially when you're the person who reads posts of people with mental health issues. If I believed someone had mental health I wouldn't waste time reading their posts. What does that say about you?

That's a choice of theirs and I don't believe it should be an obligation. If Trump signed off on legislation that benefited Tesla then bought a bunch of Tesla stock it would come to light
